DECEMBER 5, 1940 LOCAL AFFAIRS Mr. D. R. Hodgin of Buffalo. ? V., spent the Thanksgiving holiday here. Mrs. Malta Watts of Lenoir, was week-end guest at the home of Ml and Mrs. W. M. Winkler. Mr. P. H., have ar rived at the home of Mrs. Adams parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Greer ancf will remain through the Christ mas holidays. Mrs. J. C. Goodnight has relume: home after visiting her parents. Mr. Edgar Cooke, who is employed by Kiker and Younl at Glen A1 pine, visited with his family ir Boone over the week-end. The young coupe arc " making their heme there for the present. \ SQGETYNOTES Fidel is Class Meets The November meeting of the Fideiis Sunday school class cf the Boone Baptist church was held at the home of Mrs. L. T. Tatum with Mi's. Tunnel!, Mrs. J. V. Caudill and Mrs. Herman Wilcox as joint hostesses. The meeting was called to " order by the president. Mrs. GeorgeGreene, and Mrs. J. C. Canipe con" ducted the devotional. A short busis ness meeting was held, after u.-hi?h 1 the gathering was turned over to the hostesses who had planned a f Thanksgiving game and other ens tertninment which was enjoyed by i ell. They then served a plate of delicious refreshments to each of the - 23 members and visitors present, e and everyone enjoyed a pleasant social hour. Before leaving it was decided that t the December mee ting would be held at the regular time, which is the second Tuesday in the month. This will be December 10th, 7:30 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. D. L.. Wilcox on Oak street, the hostesses being Mrs. Page, Mrs. Upham. Mrs. Elsie Hagaman. Mrs. Floyd Hagaman and Mrs. E. L. Payne. Thisj is to be the Christmas meeting and every member is urged te attend " and visitors and prospective mem bers are always welcome. I Miss Maltha Engaged l To Dr. Harvey Slocum Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Maltha of - Madison, Wis., former Watauga - county residents, announce the up1 preaching marriage of their daughter, Mary, to Dr. Harvey C. Slucum, , also of Madison. Her fiance Is a member of the j medical faculty at the University ol t Wisconsin, being an instructor in . the department of anasthesia. Dr. Slocum is a graduate of the University of Buffalo (N.
