R. Dunn;,gun. informational service representative, and announced by A. L. Fletcher, chairman of the N. C. Unemployment Compensation commission. Normally, unemployment compensation. or benefits to workers tem poraruy out ot 30b.-, is the largest item in the program, except in agricultural counties. The more and larger industries a county has. the mere jobless benefits it gets. In the 2>V> years of benefit payments, through June 30. these benefits reached $23,728.71, in-luded in 4.002 chocks issued to residents of Watauga county. Chairman Fletcher reports that ; state agencies handling phases of the social security act co-operate with; him in supplying figures of their activities, which gives him an accurate . picture cf distributions in counties of the state. These include the state welfare department. Mrs. W. T. Bost, superintendent; Dr. Roma S. Check, ! secretary of the state commission | for the blind; Dr. Carl V. Reynolds, < state health officer, and the depart- j nient ot public instruction, particularly T. E. Browne, director of vocational education. Old ago assistance, help for needy residents past 05 years of age. in the four years of distribution, thiough last June 30. amounted to $54,911.50 in this county. Aid to dependent children, holn for those deprived of their normal breadwinners, amounted to $2(i.413.50 in the some period in this county Aid to the blind, in the same 48 months, amounted to $12.33;!.id in the county. In these throe divisions of the social security act. the federal government provides one-half of tho funds and the state and counties one-four lit each, with a stale equalizing fund to help the smaller counties. Price to January 1, 1940. these three governmental units furnished one-third each for aid to dependent children. With practically accurate figures, it is evident, Chairman Fletcher points out, that $1)7.437.47 was distributed in this county to last July i, in four of the five major divisions of tin; act, exclusive of old age and survivors insurance. The other five divisions, classed as Wanted To Buy Dogwood Never in the history oi our business have we paid such high prices for good quality Dogwood delivered our mill Mountain City. Tenn.
