SHEEP SHEARING SCHOOL A cheep-shearing school will be ?held at Lee Swift's farm on Upper Beaver Dam Thursday, May 23 from 9 a. m. till 3 p. m. Mr. Warner, who is with the Sun beam Corporation, formerly the ? Chicago Flexible Shaft Co., and H. M. Stamey, extension animal hus bandry specialist, will conduct the school. Farmers will be shown how to shear sheep," tie wool, and how to sharpen combs and cutters, also how to care for shearing equipment. Each sheep producer should try to attend the school to learn how to shear sheep. 4-H Club members and FFA boys are especially invit ed to attend. San Diego, Calif, May 7 ? Marine Private First Class Glenn R Miller, son of Mr. J. A. Miller, of Boone, arrived here recently aboard the troopship Starlight after spending 21 months overseas. He enlisted in November, 1943, and served with the Fifth Marine Division on Iwo Jima as a machine gunner. Mountain Dale News The pastor Rev. Ronda Earp of Vilas filled his regular appointment Saturday and Sunday at Mountain Dale church. Carl and Geneva Cornett spent last week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dugger of Butler. Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornett and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mathenson of Neva. Tenn. were visitors in the community Sunday, and were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Phillips. Miss Grace Main spent Sunday afternoon with Miss Genevieve Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Eggers and daughter, of Sugar Grove, were visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Greene Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floss Eggers visited with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cornett Sunday. Mrs. Homer Cornett and son spent a few days last week visiting with her parents and other relatives at Zionville. Examinations were held Tuesday and Wednesday. Books are to checked in T ursday. On Fri day at regular assembly, perfect at tendance certificates will be given out and diplomas will be given to Margery Bradley, Mary Shull, Shirley Max Swift and Ralph Greer. These students have secured enough* units through summer school or other work to make them eligible for graduation. Mr. Osborne and Mrs. Wilson pre sented the school play "A Ready Made Family" at the Mabel sc ool Friday May 10, at 8 p. m. The Audi tori umn was well filled and seemed to enjoy a splended performance by the cast . Faculty Party A delightful party was enjoyed by the faculties of the Cove Creek schools last Thursday afternoon from three until five-thirty o'clock. The teachers assembled in the teacher's lounge" at the high school building where the divided them selves into two teams for playing Softball. Later, on the ball field, the two teams battled each other through seven inings. The team headed by Mr. Sam Osborne energed victorf cous with a score of 11-8. At t e conclusion of the game the teachers | met in the high school cafeteria for a delicious supper. A refreshment committee planned and served delicous sand witches, cookies and drinks. The girl scouts with Miss Stiles as troop leader plfcn an overnight camping trip to Bluff Park this week-end. They plan to leave Fri day afternoon and return Saturday. This will be their first experience in overnight camping and each scout is looking forward to a won derful time. The final issue of the Wacovian came off press last Friday. Its gene ral theme was spring and featured spring flowers in color as decora tions. By many this issue has been ' chosen as the best issue of the year. Only two-thirds of the world in habitants are counted by a census.
