1 . Added $ I 00.00 to $ I 50.00 per acre to the income
farmers received for Burley and Flue-cured tobacco in
1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1 944 and 1945. (Quota Pro
gram). Sponsored in' January, 1946, the Flannagan Bill
which gives us the opportunity to improve and preserve
our program for 1 947 and future years.
(This measure gained its original sponsorship
from the Watauga County Farm Bureau)
2. Added $30.00 to $40.00 per bale to the income
farmers received for cotton in 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944
and 1945. (Bankhead Parity Loan Act). The Farm Bu
reau is bitterly opposing all price ceilings on raw cotton.
3. Added $5.00 to $10.00 per bale to price of cotton
in 1944 and 1945. ( Bankhead-Brown Amendment to
Price Control Acts).
4. Added $20 per ton on price of peanuts in I 944 and
1945 compared with 1943.
5. Added to income from cattle, hogs, milk, chickens,
eggs, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes and other farm prod
ucts. (Steagall Act.)
6. Sponsored and fought for ample appropriations
for Agricultural Adjustment Administration; Agricul
tural Conservation Program; Department of Agriculture;
Experiment Station; Extension Service; Rural Electrifi
cation; Vocational Education, and all other Agricultural
Agencies.
7. In 1945, North Carolina had 39,434 members.
