LOCAL AFFAIRS v Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Angel were! dinner guests Thanksgiving Day with Mr. and Mrs. Hale Vance. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Winkler of Mount Airy visited last week with relatives in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fox of Statesville were Thanksgiving visitors with Mr. and Mrs. A. L.j Cooke. Prof, and Mrs. W. M. Grubbs of Savannah, Ga., were holiday visitors last week with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Nash. Mrs. A. R. Fairchild of Glen-^ side, Pa., has been visiting at the home of her parent^, Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Trivette. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Horton of Riva, Md? are spending a ievf days with homefolks in the vicinity of Vilas. Mrs. W. G. Boiling and child- ' ren and Mrs. Jennie Critcher spent Thanksgiving with rela tives and friends in Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Josep^ Conder man are in Miami Fla., spending the winter with Mrs. Conderman's mother, Mrs. Margaret Bohnert. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Wilson of. Savannah, Ga., were Thanks giving visitors with relatives in the city. Miss Elaine Greer of Winston Salem. was a Thanksgiving visi tor at the home of her sister. Mrs. Ben Miller and Mr. Miller. Bom to Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Bingham at Watauga Hospital December 1st, a son, who has been named James Lewis Bing ham. Dr. and Mrs. A. Y. Howell, Jr., of Cumming, Ga., spent the Thanksgiving holidays with Mr. and Mrs. A. Y. Howell, Sr., at Vilas. ( Mr. J. W. Crowe, of Shelby, father of Mrs. Amoj Abrams. for- 1 merly of this city, but lately of Raleigh, died suddenly last Sat urday and rites were held Mon day. Further details are unavail Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Cooke, Mr. j and Mrs. Joe C. Cooke, of Boone, ; and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harrell of Gastonia, were Thanksgiving I visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Owens, Albany, Ga. Mr. Blaine Trivett is yet a patient at the Veterans Hospital, Mountain Home, Tenn., where he has been since August 10. His condition is said to be unimprov ed. Mrs. John E. Brown, Jr., left Monday for a visit with her mother Mrs. A. W. Walker, of Fayetteville. Mrs. Walker re cently suffered a broken ankle in a fall at her home. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hash and Mrs^ Frank Councill of Bristol, spent Thanksgiving Day with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart F. Brown', and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Brown of Boone Route 2. Miss Gertrude Perry o? Greens boro spent Thanksgiving with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H. B. Perry, and before returning at tended the Army-Navy football game) David F. Greene and family, Greensboro; Roy B. Greene and family, Winston-Salem; and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar B. Coffey, Greensboro, had Thanksgiving dinner with Mr. and Mrs. R. M. | Greene. Pfc Almond B. Brown left Fri day for Hamilton Field, Calif., | after spending a 10 day furlough | with his parents Mr. and Mrs.j Stewart T. Brown. Mrs. Brown; accompianed him to Bristol where! she spent a few days with her daughters; Mrs. H. E. Hash and Mrs. Frank Councill. Mrs. Doris, Anderson of Boone was also a guest of Mrs. Hash. Mrs. J. L. Goodnight and Olen Goodnight spent the Thanksgiv ing holidays with relatives in Gastonia and Dallas, and on their return home Saturday, visited with Mr. George Khyne of Vale, Lincoln county, who was cele-j brating his 90th birthday. Mr J Rhyne's general health is good, and he attributes his long life to hard* work, temperance and abstinence from alcoholic drinks, and tobacco. BOX SUPPER SUCCESS We wish to thank each and everyone for their fine coopora tion at Rutherwood school last Friday night. November 22. We especially wish to thank Mr. A. G. Miller for helping us out. There was $148.60 taken in which will be used for the bene fit of the school lunch room. Shirley Ann Cook won the cake for being voted the prettiest girl, E. J. Hardin a can of pickles for the ugliest man. BOX SUPPER There will be a box supper at Bamboo school Saturday, Dec ember 7, sponsored by the school. SAMUEL A. MOIR, JR.. WiM Winkler Is Bride Df Samuel A. Moir. Jr. Miss Betty Ruth Winkler.1 iaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Winkler of Boone, was married Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock to Samijel A. Moir, Jr., son of1 Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Moir of! Francisco in a ceremony at the First Baptist church of Boone. The Rev. J. C. Canipe, former pastor of the church, performed the ceremony. The vows were spoken before an altar banked with English ivy) and palms. Five-branched candle- 1 labra holding lighted tapers and baskets of giant white chrysan themums were placed around the altar. Miss Virginia Wary, organist, and Miss Rachel Ann Vance, vo calist, gave a program of nupital music. Miss Wary played "Indian Love Call" and "Clair de Lune." The traditional wedding marches *'ere used as processional and re cessional. Miss Vance sang "Un til," "At Dawning" and "All For You" prior to the cticinorty and 'The LiOrd's Prayer," by Malotte, at the end. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a 1 gown of bridal satin, cut with i fitted bodice and lace yoke edged ] with a ruffle and long pointed < sleeves. The full skirt extended i into a short train. Her fingertip veil of illusion was held in place by a coronet of seed pearls and ; she carried a bouquet of pink roses centered with an orchid and showered with streamers of white satin ribbon and tube roses. Mrs. Robert Lee Congleton, sister of the bride, was matron ofj honor. Her drcs's of pink net over taffeta was trimmed with fuchsia' ribbon and she wore long fuchsia gloves. She carried a nosegay of. roses, carnations and tuberoses! Her headdress was a band of flowers and net. Miss Mary Sue Winkler, another sister, was maid of honor. Her gown of pink net was trim med with satin ribbon and her long gloves were fuchsia. Her nosegay of carnations, roses and tube roses and crown of flowers and net matched those of the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Mar- J beth Winkler, Boone; Mrs. Wil-i liam Coffey, Greensboro; Mrs. James Marsh, Boone; and Miss Jean Ingle, Winston-Salem. Their dresses were blue net over taf feta, trimmed with pink satin ribbon, and they carried bou quets of roses. They wore gar-' lands of flowers and net. Francis Essie, of Cana, class mate of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were William Ralph Winkler, Jr., brother of the bride, Carl Fidler of Cornelius, Vernon Felton. Rocky Mount, Warren HawkHR Spray; John Kirk, Lex ington; and Tex Craven of High Point. Mrs. Winkler, mother of the bride, wore a gown of black silk trimmed with fuchsia and black sequins, and fuchsia accessories. H#r corsage was of Bailar Tim as rises. Mrs. Moir, mother of the bride groom, wore a gown of black with white accessories and a corsage of gardenia.-. Immediately following the cere mony a reception was given at the home of the bride's parents. The table was covered with a lace cloth and had a centerpiece of white snapdragons and fern. Miss Dot Vance of Newland, cousin of the bride, Miss Mary (Catherine Wilson and Mrs. Jerry Coe of Boone, presided at the table. Others assisting in the din ing room were Miss Irene John son, Lexington, Ky., and Miss Josephine Shannon, Rising Sun, Ind Mrs. Grady Moretz presided at the register. Mrs. Gordon Winkler, Mrs. Paul Winkler, Mrs. D. J. Whitener, Mrs. James Wink ler, Mrs. Councill Cook, Mrs. Wiley Smith and Mrs. R. W. Watkins, all of Boone, also as sisted the hostess. Mrs. Moir was educated at Eastern Kentucky State Teachers college and Appalachian State Teachers college. The bridegroom, who was discharged from the army air forces in May, served overseas three years. He was educated at Oak Ridge Military Institute and is now a student at Appalachian State Teachers col lege. After a short wedding trip they will make their home in Boone. Bethel Horn* Demonstration Club Meets The Bethel Home Demonstra tion Club met at the school lunch room on November 27. Miss Matheson gave an interesting discussion on gifts and how to make them. The meeting was then turned over to Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Lawrence. The club spon sored a household shower that was given them, since everything they had was destroyed by fire. Miss Virginia Greene is Bride Of Norman F. Watson Miss Virginia Greene, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Greene of Laxon, was married to Norman F. Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Watson of Lenoir, at 11 a. m. Wednesday, November 20 at Laurel Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. R. C. Eggers, pastor, officiating using the ring ceremony. The bridegroom, a veteran of 29 months of army service, 16 of Iwhich were spent overseas, is employed with the Hibritin Chair Co., Lenoir. Green Valley Home Club Holds Meeting The Demonstration Club of Green Valley held its meeting with Mrs. Stuart Brown. Mrs. Byers had charge of the meeting which was opened by singing "America" and reading the col lect. The minutes were read and old business was disposed with. New business was discussed. The club voted to make a quilt to sell. The quilt will be finished Dec. 10 at the home of Mrs. Byers. All member of the club are urged to be at the quilting party. Miss Matheson then showed the club women how to make beautiful items which are useful and would be very valuable Christmas presents. She suggested that we give our city friends a jar of food for Christmas presents.
