Miss Helen Trotter, who has been teaching the lower grades in our public school for the pa^ three months, left Tuesday for her home in Charlotte. A teacher will be employed for those clas ses some time in the future. The venerable gentleman retired on Saturday night seemingly in' his usual he Ah, but was found dead in his bed early Sunday morning. At the annual meeting of the directors of the Watauga County Bank held in Boone on Monday last. George P. Hagaman was elected cashier for the ensuing year to succeed Attorney E. S. Coffey, who has filled the posi tion so acceptably ever since the bank was established. He will re tire on the 15th with the thanks of all for his efficiency and close attention to the interests of the institution. His defeat was due to the fact that his successor's bid was far below that which he (Mr. Coffey) had been getting or could afford to take. Mr. Haga man is one of our most brilliant young men, and we may rest as sured that our banking interests will be safe in his hands.
