Younce, 19, seaman first class, USN, ' son of C. O. Younce of Mabel, has been assign ed to the destroyer tender USS Cascade, on duty with the Philadelphia group, Atlantic Reserve Fleet. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Winkler visited last week with their daughter, Mrs. Robert L. Con gleton in Richmond, Ky. Mr. Winkler returned but Mrs. Wink ler will remain there for two weeks. Jose lturbi was in Houston on May 16th to give a Rjncert for the Texas City bene t program. Miss Blair had the pleasure of hearing him play and 'seeing him present the governor of Texas with a check for $9,000 which was the proceeds from the performance. Mrs. I. G. Green* Observes Her 65th Birthday ? Mrs. I. G. Greene was honored Ion Sunday, May 25th, when all her children gathered at her home in Perkinsvflle and gave her a birthday dinner. Green Valley Club Meets With Mrs. Ennia Byerm The May meeting of the Green Valley Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. Ennis Byers with Mrs. Ruby Meichel as hostess. The meeting was called to Drder by the president. The cal led was read followed by the singing of "America." The re port was read of the April meet ing, also of the play which was a great success. These reports were approved. The club voted to send a note of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Cottrell of Boone and the teachers of Green Valley school for helping so much with our play. A commit tee was appointed to buy re freshments for the school and serve them. This social was given Friday, May 23 at the school. The secretary was voted to pay all debts of the club. Mri. David Martin joined the club. There was seven members, two visitors and four children pre sent. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Mae Prof fitt. After the business the program was turned over to Miss Mathe son who gave a most interesting talk on "How Do I Measure Up In My Home As A Parent?" She read A Mother's Prayer" which was unusally good, also a nice poem. The hostess assisted by Mrs. Byers and Mrs. Etta Brown served a wonderful party plate. The afternoon was enjoyed by all. Miss Eggers Is Bride Of Harland G. Perry Miss Margaret Eggers of Boone became the bride of Mr. Harland G. Perry of Bailey, N. C. in a ceremony performed at the Baptist Church in Henderson ville by Dr. J. C. Canlpe. Mrs. Perry is a daughter of Representative and Mrs. S. C. Eggers, received ? her higher edu cation at Mars Hill College and has taught at Bailey for the past year. Mr. Perry is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Perry of Bailey, is a graduate of Bailey High School, and spent 27 months in the Pacific and Mediterranean theatres with the navy in the last war. He is now engaged in farm ing. Mr. and Mrs. Perry will make their home in Bailey following a westtfn Carolina trip. Engagement of Miee Johnson is Announced ? He was the son of the late Frank and Nancy Norris Brown, and had spent his entire .life in Watauga county where he had engaged in farming and the lum ber business. He was 63 years of age.
