(Shopmen's Trade Review.) Our idea of an active showman is R. K. Agle, who headquarters at the Appalachian Theatr* in Boone, a small college town in western North Carolina, as dis trict manager for the Statesville Theatre Co. And when we say active? we mean just that. Just as we had begun to list a few activities, along Came another. So hare we go again. Well, for on? thing, Showman Agle was named, for {he second time, Watauga county chairman of the recent March of Dimes drive ? a selection based, it would appear, on his ability as a go gettar. Showman Agle is alert in every tie-up possibility. Time was when local residents could call their friends via telephone without using a number, but the telephone company soon chang ed that by issuing a directory. When more names were added, the Boone theatre man performed a public service by listing them (and their numbers) on a hand bill which he distributed to ; homes and business places. The accessory contained a message about his current attraction, plus < the statement that the theatre would cAll one telephone number , a day, and if the person receiving the 'Call could tell what was play ing?; iie or she would receive a gueftt ticket to the theatre. Well, that's all right as far as ' it ,-goea. In fact, it's swell. But we're not through yet. When Agle heard that Appala chian State Teachers College was holding S. P. (secret passion) Week, during which time the girls pay for everything, he took I the bull by the horns and placed a display on the campus inviting the girls to pay their own way to a special matinee of Mono gram's "Jiggs and Maggie in Society," and bring in their S. P's free of charge. HORNS FOR 'HIGHWAY ? Si?f U dval ?Uctric and air Harm wWi ?#?? Hv? Unf di?tanc? highway tch?d uUi and ?*#!< traffic a??WtnH. Bamett Motor Co. East Main St. We'll stop here now, but you can bet that before these lines are set in type, Agle will have put over another smart piece of showmanship. , And, by golly, he has. Just reaching our desk is a handbill tieup with a local hardware store in connection with 20th-Fox's "The Shocking Miss Pilgrim." Tie-in copy points out that "it's really shocking the impression we can make on our summer friends through a clean, Cour teous town by cleaning up and painting op." Copy further points out that all the equipment necessary can be purchased at (he hardware store, then adds the information that "The Shock ing Miss Pilgrim" is playing at the Appalachian. Now take it easy for a few minutes, Mr. Agle. We can't keep up with you. Church Announcements BOONE METHODIST CHURCH llev. S. B. Most. Pastor 10:00 a. m. Church School 11:00 a. m.
