Th- Cove Creek High School
opened its 1948-49 session on
Monday, September 20 with an
enrollment in the high school of
340 and in the elementary
school 360. Two additional teach
ers were allotted after the State
Board ol Education reduced the
per teacher load.
New teachers for the year are

A group of local men installed

constant use, since we now have
an outdoor basket-ball court,
croquet ground, tennis court and
horseshoes in addition to the

S. F. Horton has worked dur
ing the summer for the State
Board of Education in routing
school buses. Mr. Horton has
surveyed 85 of the 100 counties
in North Carolina since 1935
when this work was first started
by the State School Commission

LOYALTY CHECKS
The Federal Bureau of Investi
gation has announced that since
the start of the Federal loyalty
check, it had found 2,110,521
Federal workers so beyond
suspicion that full investigations
into their loyalty were unneces
sary. A total of 8,344 full investi
gations have been started since
the beginning of the program and
thus far 5,421 of them, or 88 per
cent, have been completed. Of
these, 619 resigned during in
vestigations and 44 others were
found to be no longer in Govern
ment employ. The remaining 4,
758 cases were turned over to the
Civil Service Commission for
decision.
