M rs. J. W. Davis who has spent
the summer at her cottage on
Ray Hill left on Wednesday to
visit her brother in Chattanooga,
Tenn. before returning to her
home in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Jim Council), district high
way engineer, is a patient at a
North Wilkesboro hospital, where
he underwent an operation last
week. His condition is reported
as satisfactory, and he will likely
return home within a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sapp of
Raleigh were week-end visitors
of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. McGuire.
Mr. Sapp graduated from the
University of N. C. in July and
has recently accepted a position
with the advertising department
of the News and Observer.

Give Demonstrations

home economist of A. K. Sutton,
Inc., Charlotte, will be at the
Craven Furniture store Thurs
day and Friday of this week, for
the purpose of demonstrating the
new home freezer units. Refresh
ments will be served, and a cord
ial invitation is extended to all to
witness the demonstrations.

The recent marriage of Mar

Mrs. Margaret Phillips Hughes
of Boone and Maurice Joseph
Fagan, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
Mauris Joseph Fagan of Phila
delphia took place in the Catholic
Cathedral of The Assumption in
Baltimore, Md. The Rev. Thomas
J. Madagra, Rector of the
cathedral officiated, using the
double ring ceremony.
The bridal chorus from Lohen
grin was used as the processional,
and Mendelssohn's wedding
march was played softly during
the ceremony. The bride entered
with her uncle Paul Loraine
Hofler of Gatesville, N. C. who
gave her in marriage. She wore
a cape ensemble of blue velvet,
a white feather hat and white
accessories. Her only ornament
was a string of pearls. She wore
a corsage of symbolian orchids
and carried a white prayer book
covered with an orchid and white
ribbon streamers of stephanotis.
Mrs. Robert A. Phillips- of
Baltimore, sister-in-law of the
bride, was matron of honor. She
wore a black French crepe dress,
black hat, and "a corsage of
American Beauty roses.
Roberta Ann Phillips, was
ring bearer and wore a white
dotted swiss dress, a white tulle
circlet on her hair and a corsage
of talisman rose buds.
Vincent Butler of Philadelphia
served as best man.
The bride's mother wore a
smoke grey gaberdine suit with
black accessories and a corsage
of tailsman roses.
Following a short wedding
trip they are now at home at
3438 Princeton Ave., Philadel
phia.
Mrs. Fagan graduated from
Gatesville High school and Keys
Costal College, Norfolk, Va. She
was employed in the Northwest
em Bank at Boone before her
marriage.
Mr. Fagan was educated at the
North East Catholic College and
is associated with the Safety
Glass Co. He served as yeoman
in the Coast Guard for four
years.

Eleven alumnae of Woman's
College of the University of
North Carolina met at the Sky
line Restaurant in Boone to join
other alumnae groups through
out the state in the celebration of
Founders Day, October 5, at 8
o'clock. The group was unable
to get the broadcast of the pro
gram from Greensboro, but Miss
Mary H. Walker, who presided
at the meeting, read Chancellor
W. C. Jackson's speech.
Following the informal dinner
and program the group organi
zed a Watauga County Chapter
and elected the following of
ficers: President, Mrs. Doris
Taylor Perry; vice president,
Miss Cora Jeffcoat; secretary,
Miss Mary H. Walker. It was de
cided to have another meeting in
the spring and invite other
alumnae throughout the county
and those transfers from Wo
man's College at Appalachian
State Teachers College to attend.
Miss Mary Arrington, an alu
mna from Rocky Mount and
Blowing Rock, was a special
guest for the occasion. She was
at Woman's College when it
opened its doors and had many
interesting experiences to give
to the other alumnae present.

Honored On Birthday
Mrs. Fred Wyke gave a party
Monday afternoon at her home
on 15th St. in Hickory, honoring
her daughter, Nedra Jean, on her
second birthday anniversary.
Games were played and prizes
given. Many gifts were received
by the honored guest.
Cake was served with ice
cream and lemonade to the fol
