Approximately 6,400 Ford dealers throughout the nation have entered their dealerships In the contest . Viv Seven hundred prizes totaling $100,000 will be awarded winners of the safety contest. The prizes are 25 new Fords including five Ford trucks; 25 $1,000 U. S. Sav ings Bonds, 100 $1000 Bonds^200 $50 Bonds, and 350 $25 Bonds. The contest has the support of the National Safety Council, the Inter-Industry Highway Safety Committee and other safety or ganizations. Ned H. Dearborn, president of the National Srfety Council, in a letter to L. D. Crusoe, vice president and general manager of the Ford Division, said: "Certainly every motorist should check and double check the mechanical condition of his car for safety's sake, and you are making such a check easily avail able for all drivers throughout the country. "And I am sure that your safe ty contest, with Its attractive prizes, will make Americans more safety conscious and thus help prevent many accidents." In order to participate in the contest, motorists must take their car or truck, of any make, to a Ford dealership for a safety check at absolutely no cost or ob ligation to the motorist. Free checks will be made on the brakes, steering, headlight, rear and stop light, tires, wind shield wipers, muffler, glass, horn and rear view mirror. Dealers will place an attactive safe driver reflecto insignia on the car or truck inspected and the motorist will be given an entry blank to participate in the contest. The motorist then must com plete in no more than 50 addi tional words the following state ment: "All cars and trucks ahopld be safety-checked periodically be cause ? OBITUARY Edward Lee Jackson was born May 18, 1871. Departed this life' August 22, 1949, Age 78 years, 3 months, 6 days. He was married to Margaret Bodenhammer Oct ober 31st 1896. To this union was born four children, two of wtich survive. Mrs. Carrie Tripastt, Lenoir, Mrs. Sallia Winebarger, Toms Creek, Va. On December 23, 1903 he was married to Min nie Moretz. The widow, three sons and two daughters survive. William Jackson, Boone, Clyde Jackson, Laxon, Mrs. Mabel Wil cox, 9? one, Avery Jackson, Boone, and Thelxna Finch, Hen derson. There are 23 grandchild ren and 9 great grandchildren.
