Matheson of Mooresville spent the week-end at the home of their sister, Mrs. F^ A. Linney. Mr. and Mrs. James Farthing announce the birth of a son at Watauga Hospital on October 3, who has been named Harry Clay Farthing. Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Mackey, Jr. announce the birth of a son, Edward Sherwood, at the Hagaman Clinic on October 8. Mrs. Mackey is the formerl Miss Ruth Sherwood of Cove Creek. Mr. E- F. Sherwood of Vilas, left Tuesday for Denver, Colo., where he will visit a brother, Mr. Wm. . Sherwood. He is being accompanied as far as Omaha by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Sherwood, Mr. and Mrs. James Sherwood and Steve, who will continue to South Dakota on a hunting trip. T-Sgt. and Mrs. Joe McCrary have returned from Hamilton Field, Calif, where they have been for the past year. Sgt. Mc Crary has taken an assignment at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where they will make their home. Dr. and Mrs. R. G. Taylor of North Wilkesboro, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Hunter of Lenoir, and Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hobbs of Blacks burg, Va. were week end guests of Dr. and Mrs. Graydon P. Eg gers. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Finger of i Baden. N. C. attended the Here ford sale here Friday and visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Greer. Other visitors in the Greer home during the week end were Mr. and Mrs. Joel McLanden and Miss Phyllis Ann Greer of Albe marle. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Berry of Drexel and their daughter, Miss Betty Sue Berry, a student at Appalachian, and Mr. and Mrs. Neal Goodnight of Gastonia spent the week end with Mrs. J. L. Goodnight. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Steven son of Alexandria, Va. are visit ing friends and relatives in the county. Miss Edna Bingham and Mrs. Clyde R. Greene accom panied Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson to Charlotte for a few days visit last week. Mrs. Stevenson is the former Miss Hattie Bingham. Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Craven and son Bobby of Harlen, Ky., Miss Hannah Craven, dietician at Presbyterian hospital, Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Everette Mimms and children, Jimmie, Larry, Martha and Kenny of Hickoiy, and Mr. and Mrs. R. N. English of Clarksville, Ga. spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Craven. Mr. and Mrs Bart Norris re turned Monday from a sightsee ing trip through Virginia, Mary land and Washington, D. C. They spent some time at Beaver Dam, Va., with Mrs. D. N. Trivett, a sister of Mrs. Norris, and attend ed a picnic at Mrs. Trivett's home. The affair took the form of a family reunion and was at tended by more than 50 relatives and friends. They also attended the state fair at Richmond while away. Founder '? Day Of Moman's Collage Celebrated Thirteen alumae of Woman's College of the University of North Carolina met at the Sky line Restaurant in Boone to join other alumnae groups through* out North Carolina and in other states in celebration of Founder's Day October 5. The college colors were carried out in the beautiful decorations of yellow and white flowers. Mrs. H. B. Perry, Sr., president of the chapter, welcomed the alumnae. The following officers were elected for the incoming year: President, Mrs. Cleta Har mon; vice-president. Miss Cora Jeff coat; secretary, Miss Mary H. Walker. Miss Martha Quallsj who at tended Woman's College last year, told in a .very interesting manner about life on the campus as it is today. Miss Mary Walker reported on the alumnae meeting of the past spring. Then the group left the restaurant and went to the home of Mrs. Virginia Holshauser, where the eight o'clock Pound er's Day broadcast was enjoyed. Those attending the meeting were Mrs. Doris Taylor Perry, Miss Cora Jeffcoat, Miss Madge Rhyne, Mrs. Cleta Harmon, Miss Mary H. Walker, Mrs. Virginia Holshouser, Mrs. Eugenia Kirk man. Miss Mary Ellen Gibbs, Miss Martha Quails, Dr. Ina Van Noppen, (a former teacher at the college), Mrs. H. Coffey, Miss Mildred Beamer and Miss Cath erine Greene. Bamboo Junior 4-H Club News The Bamboo Junior 4-H Club was reorganized September 13. The club members selected the projects for the conjing year, af ter which Mr. Kirkman and Miss Nash talked to the club about the fair. After the discussion the fol lowing officers were elected. J. R. The meeitng was called to order by the president The rollect was repeated and the meeting was turned over to Miss Betty Matheson who gave a very interesting demonstration on di fJ terent foods for the family. After the close of the meeting a delightful social hour was en joyed and Mrs. Critcher assisted by Mrs. Paul Critcher served a delicious party plate.
