The group went by car. hi After lunch In Winaton-Salem they visited Guilford College and attended a lecture and tour of the Guilford Battle Ground. Ttwilr next (top wai Duke Uni versity where the group visited | the impressive chapel, after a { tour of the campus. A visit of the Planetarium at the Univer sity of North Carolina was fol lowed by supper in Raleigh. The group saw the presentation of "An Invasion from Mars" at the Planetarium. This Planetarium is one of the six in the western hemisphere. The sightseers spent the night in Raleigh and the next morning visited the Museum of ' Natural History and the Education build ing. From there they went to the Legislature where the students were recognised by the represen tative of this county, Wade E. Brown. Part of the group visited the Senate. Mr Brown conduct ed a Uur of the capitol for the whole group. After leaving the capitol the group was the guest of Mr. Brown at luncheon, where senators and representa tives from all over the state were eating. At two p. m. the group observed a meeting of the Appropriations Committee of the House, and of special Interest to the group was a speech by Dr. Dougherty of Appalachian State Tearhers College. On the return trip that after noon the grouo visited the spac ious coliseum at State College. The visitors returned to Boone by way of Lexington and Mocks vill#. The group was accompani ed by Mr. Fred Hollis of the Social Studies department. Students making the trip in cluded: Becky Shoemake, Mild red Dean, Lena Greer, Faye Critcher, Ray Miller, Larry Ker ley, Lloyd Rogers, Newell Car roll, Bill Moretz, and Bobby Miller. Band Concert The Appalachian High School Band presented its annual mid winter concert last Thursday night In the high school audi torium. The band is under the direction of Mr. Roy R. Blanton and his student teacher, Mr. J. W. Williams. The band presented the fol lowing selections: "Carnival of Roses" Overture, "Crusaders" Overture, "Londerry Air", "Songs My Mother Taught Me", "InvercargiU" March, 'Tea For Two". '?On The Mall", "Ballad For Evening". Club Knd Social Neva , The Sophomore Class of th?. high achool sponsored a uemi formal Valentine dance from 7:30 until 11:00, on Monday night, February 12. Muaic was furnished by Bill Mclntyxe and hit orchestra. The achool gym was appropriately decorated for the occasion. Monitor* Club Supper The Monitors Club under the direction of Mr. Leek, had a "pitch 'in" supper Monday night, February 9 in the recrea tion room of the high achool.
