Yalle Crucis School Kiddies To Broadcast Newt of the Week at the Vtlle Cruris School. Mm. Tartar's >ws< Qn*t We are going to Boone to five a program over the radio. Our program u a little plajr, songs, poems, and speeches we hsw learned this year. We ran hard ly wait to take this trip and have this nice experience. We want to go by the Hillside Dairy to see I tow ice cream is made and to get some to eat. We would like to see the fire truck, too. Mrs. twtfTs Third aad Fourth The following children have been on our Reading Honor Roll for the past two weeks: Ksty Sue Bentley. Sheila Triplett, John Cooke, Joe Ford. Jerry Welch, Brownie Dyer, Patsy Calloway, Carolyn Presnell, Charles Low rance, Linda Eafp, Tom Ellis, Tom Fox. Elmer AUridg% Shirley Matheaon, Dean Church, Jennie Fox, Laura Milton Church, Dora Lee Moore, and Joyce Shook. We have had several rases of influenza in our room; however, our attendance is beginning to improve. We are proud to claim the Lion's Club Queen of Valle Cru ris School, Joyce Shook, as a member of our third grade sec tion. Mrs. Campbell's Fourth Grade We have started a unit about Springtime. We have noticed signs of Spring. We have seen several birds that have returned from the South. On February 29 we saw some robins on our play ground. Wa taw a flock of red winged blackbirds March S. Ca rol Jean saw a redbird on Thurs day, March 6. Some of the chil dren have seen bluebirds. On March 7, James saw a yellow bird. Dayton showed us a flock of wild ducks on March 17. TrtfWfi Seventh Orade Since our seige of flue and measles we hare only two chil dren In our grade who have per fect attendance. These are Paul I etta Isaacs and Margaret Town aend. At our chapel recently we pre sented a play, "A Bunch of Keys." The characters were Betty Storie. Bobby Teams, Jimmy Fox, Doyle James, Mary Hollar*, and Paul etta Isaacs. The Lions Club Queen nomi nated from our room for the tal ent show is Betty Grey Storie. We have her picture in an even ing dress, pasted on top of a box into which we drop our money for voting. We keep the box on out teacher's desk The school nurses this month are seventh grade girls, Kay Trip let! and Helen Wallace. It is their duty to look after the cots, to keep them made up and clean. We are busy now with a unit on "America's Resources," and how they have been used to make America great. 4-H ClUb The Valle Crucls 4-H Club met February 28 in the school audi torium. The following took part on the program: Helen Wallace, Betty Storie, Mary Hollars, Den ver Townaend, Bobby Teams, Burl Townaend.Betty Sue Fox, Pauletta Isaacs, Louise Ward, Kay Triplets and Lee Sarp. After the program we had slides on gardening. Mr. Phillips of Raleigh visited us. He talked about 4-H work. Farm crops, as set by the Agri culture Department for this year, are six per cent higher than the 1961 record mark and will re quire the planting of 8,500,000 more acre*. iim?uiic Ma vuinui?. tt c nui| it to the tun* of "Pop Goes the Weasel." Our song has eight verses. Fifteen children from our class have joined the Junior Audubon When we get our leaflets, badges, and certificates, we will plan programs, field trips, and picnics, too. Mrs. Church's Sixth Grade During the pretty days which we have been having, our boys and girls have been practicing op on their Softball. A little later we hope to play sonp real games. We have three students who haven't miaaed a day thla year. They are Billy Welch, Carolyn Townsend, and Lillie Mae Berry.
