Mrs. Cottrell's First Orada Miss Betty Louise Holt from Ashboro. N. C. is our student teacher for the spring quarter. We are glad to have her. We have completed our unit on "Community Helpers." Some of the helpers which we have stud ied are: Doctor, Nurse, Policemen, Milk Man, Garbage Man, Laun dry Man, Ambulance Driver, and others. Our Spring Mural is in the making. It shows clouds, flowers, and boys flying kites. Mrs. Broome's Third Grade Students from the college have just finished an interesting unit on transportation. Retiring officer* who have done an excellent job are Geraldiae Moody, captain; Patay Wilcox, Margaret Wood, and Jerry Mc Cracken, lieutenants Zionville News Items Mr. and Mrs Edward Wilion and daughters, and Mr. and Mr*. E. N. Norrii of Bethel attended the funeral of Mr. John Wilion at Granite Fall* March S. Mr. Wilson was formerly of Silver itone. Mr. and Mrs. Clay Reece visit ed recently with Mr. and Mrs. Orval Pardue at Shouns, Tenn. Mr. Clay Pennell of Cleveland, Ohio will upend the next two weeks with hla family here. Miss Geneva Pennell will un dergo an operation at Jones Hospital, Johnaon City, Tennessee Monday. Visitori with Mr. and Mrs. N. T. Byers last week end were Rev. Carl Triplett, Chilhowle, Va? and Mr. and Mrs. Scott Swift of Sherwood. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Love and two sons of Aikln, S. C. visited this week end with friends and relatives here and at Trade, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Proffitt and daughter, Linda, of Meat Camp visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wilson. Mrs. Butler McGlamery of Trade, Tennessee and Mr. Eugene Wilson of Boone visited Mr*. Alice Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Henr? Miller Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Holman visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Norris at Bethel. Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Wilkinson of Radford, Va. spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jflftlkin*5fi. Visitors this #eek in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stephens were, Mr. L. E. Wilson of Meat Camp, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Steprfens and family of Creston, and Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wilson of Meat Camp. Mrs. Stephens is recovering from a recent illness. Rev. and Mrs. Gene Sherwood of Vilas visited Rev. and Mrs. R. C. Eggers Thursday. RETAIL SALES Retail sales in January amount ed to $13,000,000,000, ten per cent more than in the same month a year ago, according to the Com merce Department. January sales, adjusted for seasonal influences, were 1 per cent below the Decem ber level, due principally to a decline in sales of soft goods dur ing the month. Eva Danay Erneston had a very good report to present to \he claaa of her trip over the week end to Durham. Elaine Wagner made an attrac tive bulletin board of material! the brought from Florida. We are working on a new Spring bulletin board. Claude Lewii was chosen last week as being the most outstand ing student in the room, qualifica tions being: cooperation, neat ness, politeness, and good work ing habits. Sue Anne Allen, Gail Triplett, Chester Cullers, Carolyn Mastoa and Owyn Michael have had charge of the devotionals for the past week. The girls and boys are having an attendance contest. We made a tour of the college library Thursday afternoon. Sue Anne Allen'* father showed us over the building. We learned that there were approximately 60,000 books and that they were receiving 300 different magazines and 25 newspapers. We went to the cataloguing room and also learned where the children's books stayed. This was our first visit among our tour of the col lege buildings. We wrote thank you letters, drew pictures of the library and are drawing a map of the college with the different buildings which we plan to visit before school is out. The class gave an interesting program Friday afternoon with every person In the room partici pating. Some made airplanes, puppets and other interaating ob jects, some gave reports and oth ers contributed with stores, read or told, poems or news o?. visits outside of Boone and North Caro lina. Mr. Lashura's Sixth Grade Miss Jean Rainy is our practice teacher for the spring quarter.
