Watson, 63, resident of the Laxon neighborhood, died in the Veterans hospital at Oteen > last Wednesday. He had been a i patient there for two months. Funeral services were con ducted at the laurel Springs Baptist Church Saturday at 111 o'clock. Rev. Clayton Brown, ' Rev. Victor Trivette and Rev. Raymond Hendrix took part in the rites and burial was in the Watson cemetery. Mr. Watson was a son of the late T. S. and Mrs. Watson, and was a veteran of the first world war. Due to disabilities received in the conflict he had been re tired since then. He is survived by his widow and two children, Mrs. Mae Lackey and Ross Watson. There is one brother, Otis Watson, and five sisters: Mrs. Willie Greene, Mrs. Joe L. Coffey, Laxon; Mrs. E. A. Watson, Wytheville; Mrs. Mamie McQuery, ? Lenoir; Mrs. George Greer, North Wilkesboro. WSCS Conference Here Saturday Approximately 150 members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, Marion District, are ex pected to attend the annual dis trict confrrenre at Boone Metho dist Church Saturday, according to an annoflncement by officials of the local society, who are hosts for the conference. Mrs. J W. Harbison, of Shelby, Conference Presid??nt of the WSCS, will be the speaker at the luncheon, to be served in Fellow ship Hall. Valle Cruris PTA Holds Meeting The Valle Cructi P. T. A. met Monday night April 6 in the school auditorium. The president, Mrs. Blanche Young presided. Eighth grade girls were in charge of the devotional. A preview of the operetta was given. A musi cal program was given by stud ents from the seventh and eighth grades. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Richard Chase, collector of folk songs and stories, includ ing the well known Grandfather Tales and Jack Tales. He enter tained the audience by telling one of the Jack Tales. He also introduced a few mountain bal lads. The following slate of officers were elected by the nominating committee for the coming year: President, R. A. Farthing; vice president, Mrs. Carrie Baird; secretary, Mrs. Bill Bingham: treasurer, Henry Taylor. Mrs. Maxie Edmisten's first grade had the most parents pre sent.
