Mr. Colina hai attended San Mar con University and the Peru vian North American Cultuial Institute in lima. Peru, and has taught English, Spanish, history and geography in the high schools of P?ru. He Is continuing his studies in geography, education, history, English, and business management at Appalachian. The Chan Cordon Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of the 280th Dis trict. Rotary International, of which the Boone Rotarv Club is ? member. The district under writes a year of education at one of the four-year colleges in the district, Appalachian State, Western Carolina, Lenoir Rhyne, and Queens, for a student from a foreign country selected by the Memorial Scholarship Committee. Through this program the Rotary Clubs in this district develop a great interest in fostering inter national good will and under standing. Since the inception of the program. Laiz Lessp of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, attended Ler y oir Rhyne College; Hector Sosa of La Plata, Argentina, attended Appalachian State Teachers Col lege, Boone; Teresa Herroro of Merida, Mexico, attended West ern Carolina College, Cutlowhee; Argerie Vega of San Jose, Costa Rica, attended Queens College, Charlotte, and Sylvia Crone of | Stratford-on-Avon, Canada, at tended Lenoir Rhyne College. By action of the 1952 District Conference the District Scholar ship was named "The Chan Gor don Memorial Scholarship" in memory of Chan Gordon of Ashe ville who died while. serving as district governor of the 280th District. Funeral Held For Zionville Airman Funeral service* for Airman 2-C Roby Gene Thomas, 21, of Zionville, were held at 2 p. m. Friday, September 10, at Union Baptiit Churcb. Burial was in the Reese Cemetery with full military honors. He was killed in an automobile accident near Selfridge Air Force Base, Mich.. Sunday, September 5, and his body arrived in Boone Wednesday. September I. Airman Thomas was in a car with two other airmen when the accident occurred, according to information rttceived here. No other details were available. He was to have started a furlough the next day. He entered the Air Force April 5, 1952, and was stationed at Mit chell Field, N. Y., and Sampson Air Force Base, III., before going to Selfridge Air Force Base at Mount Clemens, Mich. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jennie Thomas of Zionville; three brothers, Aaron V#nce Thomas, Shouns, Tenn., Kermit Thomas, Connelly Springs, and Lee Tho mas, Grundy, Va.; and ten sisters, Mrt. Mae Baton, 8ilverstone, Mrs. Wilmetta Hampton, Mrs. Nellie Bush and Miss June Thomas, all of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Bessie Shore*, Vila*, Mrs Malcell* Brown.
