HASS In a 4 p. m. ceremony Sunday Miss Martha Jean Austin and Ro bert P. Haas were married. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Colli* Austin. The. bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. John G. Haas. Both families are of Boone. s The vows were heard in First Baptist Church by the Rev. L. H. Holllngsworth. Mr. Haas was his son's best man. Ushers included James W. Haas, and Murl Haas, brothers of the bridegroom, Clyde Austin and Collis Austin Jr., brothers of the bride, Victor A. Laxton of Lenoir and James B. Graham of Norfolk, Va. The bride was giv^n in marri age by her father and wore -a gown of lace over satin. It had long sleeves and a pearl embroid ered neckline. Her veil was worn with a pearl tiara and she carried an orchid in a bouquet of chrysan themums. Her attendants included her twin sister, Miss Mary Austin, who was maid of honor. Brides maids were Miss Minnie Austin, also a sister of the bride, Mrs. Ben Laney, Hister of the bridegroom. Miss Ruth Harrill and Miss Ruth Kesler, all of Lenoir. The bride graduated from Ap palachian State Teachers College and is employed at home demon stration agent for Caldwell Coun ty. The bridegroom graduated from Lenoir High School and is employ ed with "Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Iknbir. Local Affairs Mr. Tommy Beach of Winston Salem spent the week end with Mr. 'and Mrs. Tom Beach. Dr. E. K. McLarty of Clemson, S. C.. visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. T.'M. Greer. R. Harrington Paulette, before an altar banked With palms, floor backets of glad iolas, majestic daisies, and asters in all shades of pink. The candel abras held tall pink tapers. A program ol wedding music was presented by Mrs. J. C. Ruff, org anist, and Miss Betty Collins, so loist. Given in marriage by her step father, the bride wore a gown of blush pink imported chantilly lace and tulle over taffeta. The long torso bodice was complement ed with rows of shirred tulle, form ing a softly draped portrait neck line and shoulder effect. The very full bouffant skirt was arched with panels of imported tulle set in a full length panel of chantilly lace in front and back, with the back panels extending into the chapel train. With this she uaed long lace mitts. Her fingertip veil of imported blush pink illusion fell from a star shaped, shirred tulle crown, studded with rhinestones and tiny seed pearls. She carried a cresent shaped bouquet of pale pink sweetheart rosea and stephenotis centered with l-ubrum lilies. Maid of honor was Miss Zelda Simon of Staunton; the matron of honor was Mrs. William C. I^wson of Blowing Rock. They wore bal lerina length dresses of silk cry stellette over taffeta of candlelight pink. They were designed with a softly draped bodice and torso waist, the very full skirts paneled with net. Worn with this was ? brief bolero and matching mitts. Their crowns of matching crystel lette were adorned with pale pink roses. They carried cascading bou quets of pink roses. The bridesmaids were Miss Pa tricia Shifltt, and Mrs. Richard Burnett of Staunton, and Mrs. Richard F. Pharr of Charlottes ville, Va. They wore dresses iden tical to those of the honor at tendants in coralite pink crystal lette. and their bouquets were cas cades of pale pink asters centered with roses. The bridegroom's beat-man was Mr. Robert W. Stevens of Staun ton. Ushers were Messrs. Russell M. McKay, Charles B. Dull, Wil liam L. Burnett, all of Staunton: and William B. Jr., on October 1, a re ception was given in their honor by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Payne, uncle and aunt of the bride, at their home in Cherry Park. Mr. and Mrs. Payne welcomed the guests in the foyer which was decorated in pink and silver. The entire wedding party received in the living room where flower ar rangements complimenting the weading bouquets and dresses were used. In the den where Mrs. Carlo* DeLima and Mrs. A. E. Hamby, Sr. presided at the bride's register, bronze and gold flowers accented the antique paneling of the room. Mrs. W. T. Payne, Sr. ahowed the guests to the recereation room where the gifts were displayed. Assisting there were Mr. and Mrs. James Councill and Dr. and Mrs. William Matheson. Mrs. Richard Kelley ushered the guests to the dining room where Mrs. Councill Cooke, Mrs. L. D. Hagaman, Miss Janet Sue Houck, Miss Judy Mc Ginnis, and Miss Karen Bishop presided. The bride's table, covered with pink lace, was centered with a three-tiered wedding cake beauti fully decorated in bridal motif. The cake rested on a tray sur rounded by pink lace, gypaophllia, and asters. Each tier was topped with a wedding symbol. Silver branched candelabra with pink tapers and topped with silver wed ding bells and streamers flanked the cake. Bridal sandwlchea, ham biscuits, wedding cake, nuts, mints, and punch were served. [iMeheon For Miss DowHag | On Tuesday, September 27, Miss Sarah Lind Dowling, bride-elect, was honored at a luncheon given by Mrs. Ralph Winkler and Mrs. James Winkler at the Daniel Boone Hotel. The table was centered with a gold wedding ring on a base of yellow and gold calendulas. Small arrangements of yellow tuberous begonias marked the places of the honor guests, and gold and white place cards of bridal design were used. The hostesses presented the honoree with a crystal juice pitch er. Rehearsal Diner On Friday evening, September 30, following the rehearsal for the wedding of Miss Sarah Lind Dow ling and Lieutenant C. B. Craig, Jr., the wedding party and out-of town guests were entertained by the grooai's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence B. Craig of Concinatti, Ohio at a buffet dinner at the Wa tauga Inn in Blowing Rock. Wedding punch was served as the guests approached the buffet table. Summer flowers and white candles were used throughout the halls and lobby, providing a tea tive setting for the guests which numbered mere than a hundred. Honored At MMcr Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Payne entertained at a dinner party at Daniel Hoone Hotel last Monday evening honoring Miss Sara Lind Dowllng and Lt. C. B. Craig, Jr., who were married here Saturday. The table was centered with an arrangement of pink carnations flanked by pink candles, and the couple was presented a piece of crystal. Miss Mullins Attends Furman Rachel Virginia Mullins of Boone is among the more than 1,330 stu dents enrolled at Furman Univer sity for the fall term which be gan September IS, according to C. L. Rasor and Miss Eula Barton, registrars at the university. A freshman at Furman, Miss Mullins is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mullins.
