Pfc Anderson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther M. Anderson, Sr., of London, Kentucky. He entered the Marine Corps in 1952, which of the three years in service, he spent nine months in Korea. He is stationed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard of Portsmouth, Va. Mrs. Anderson has been employ ed at Portsmouth for the past year and is now residing at the home of her sister, Mrs. Blaine Warren. Mrs. C. J. Bumgardner return ed to her home in Lancaster, S. C. Monday after a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. John F. Greer. DAVID PERRY HAAS Miss Nancy Ellen Coffey and David Perry Haas were married Saturday in the Laurel Fork Bap tist Church, Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Miss Coffey is the daughter of Mr. and Mri. Marion Oliver Coffey. The groom ia the >on of Mrs. Elvy Loftin of Hudson. The vows were heard by the Rev Horace Harris of Lenoir in front of an altar decorated with white gladiolus and chrysanthemums. Edgar Harris of Hudson was best man. Ushers were Carrol Kirby and Bobby Hartley, both- of Hud The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gdwn of white satin and tulle. It was made with a fitted bodice And round neckline appliqued with pearl and lace flowers. Her veil was worn with a lace Juliet eap, and she carried a bouquet of car nations and orchidi. Miss Carolyn Jean Long, of Sal isbury, former roommate of the bride, was maid of hoonr. She was dressed in a gown of nile green taffeta and tulle. Miss Wanda Lee Coffey, niece of the bride, of Lenoir, was junior at tendant. She was dressed in a gown of dusty rose taffeta and tulle. Miss Martha Carol Fox, of Boone, niece of the bride, was flower girl in a white satin dress. The bride's mother wore a grey suit with navy accessories and a corsage of red roses. The groom's motlier was In charcoal grey and wore red rose buds. Miss Peggy Lee Gross of Boone, vocalist, and Mrs. Betty Shores of Blowing Rock, pifcnist, presented a program of nuptial music. The bride is a graduate of Ap palachian High School of Boone, and Charlotte Memorial Hospital, School of Nursihg. The bride groom is a graduate of Hudson High School and is now employed in automotive industry. After a northern wedding trip he and Mrs. Haas will live in Pont iac, Michigan. BPW Hostess To District Group Boone Business and Professional Woman's Club was hostess Satur day afternoon, October S, to the fall district meeting of District Two, North Carolina Business and Professional Woman's Clubs, at the Appalachian Elementary School. Eighty women attended, representing all nine club* in the district: Boone, Denton, Hickory, Lenoir, Lexington, Salisbury, Statesville, Thomasville, and Win ston-Salem. Registration began at 4:30. Workshops were held from 5 to 6, members attending one of the three offered: International rela tions, conducted by Mrs. Emma Leigh Hethcock, state chairman of that committee; Parliamentary procedures, conducted by Mrs. Earleeri Pritchett, state parliamen tarian; and the Presidents' work shop, conducted by the stat{ BPW president, Mrs. Ruby Blythe. Everyone trooped into the Ele mentary School Cafeteria at 6:30 for food and fun. Yellow candles and yellow flowers and green vines festively decorated the tables, and the meal, prepared and served by Mrs. Ralph Tugman, a member of the Boone club', and her assistants, was of the beat. Mrs. Allie Hodgin, president of Boone BPW, presided at the speaker's table. Mrs. Claire Kelaey gave the invocation. Mrs. Lottie DeBord, vice-president of the Win ston-Salem Club, graciously re sponded to Mrs. Hodgin's warm words of welcome Delightful musical selection* by Beth Eg gers and Jerry Hill, accompani ed by Mr*- Daisy Eggers, brought this part of the meeting to a close. Watauga Club Haa Meeting The Watauga County YMW (Young Men and Women's) Club held its regular meeting in the Legion Hut in Boone Friday night, October 7, at 7:30 p. m. Two teams were formed by the members with Mary Pierce as cap tain of one team and ,8)11 Austin as captain of the other. Each team was given the same number of members. A contest is being start ed and will last until Christmas. The team that has the best attend ance and gats the most new mem bers will be given a Christmas psrty by the losing team. C Richardson and Mr*. James Storie as eo-hostetacs. The president, Mrs. Howard Williams, opened the meeting with the club collect, after which Mrs. Richardson led the de votional. Guest speakers for the evening were Miss Hasel Holder, who spoke on the Immunisation program of the Health Department, and Dr. Peter Evefette, who chose the topic of flvst aid. The waya and means chairman, Mrs. Carl Greene, reported the odds and ends aale as having been very aucessful. Projects for later in the year were presented, with a doll clothes sale the project plan ned f6r December. A report on the third district meeting at North Wilkesboro was given by the district vlce-presi dejit, Mrs. Jsmes Storie. The var ious committee chairmen made their reports. ? Credit Women Elect Officers The Boone Credit .Women's Breakfast Club elected ita officers for the club year at it * regular meeting in the Boone' Trail dining Room. The following officers were elected: Annie Rufty, president; Mary Lea Gragg, first vice-president; Georgia Yates, second vice-presi dent; Mary Pierce, secretary; Ma bel Jean Minton, treasurer. Plans for Installation of officers in October are being made. Yule Decoration Contest Planned It has been announced that the women's clubs of Boone again will sponsor a home Christmas decora tions contest this year. Pumpkin Pie 1 Mi cup* cooked pumpkin 2-3 cups brown or white sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon H teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon salt 2 eggs 2 cup* milk Cook pumpkin and put it through a sieve. Add remaining in gredients in order listed. Turn mixture into a crust-lined pan and bake it in a hot over, 429 degree* for about IB minutes. Then lower the^ oven temperature to about 290 degrees and continue the baking about 40 minutes longer. The pie is done when the filling is done ? when a knife inserted in the cen ter will come out clean and the crust is a golden brown. Do not let the pie filling boil.
