Forty-one boy* and girl* from six different atates enrolled, and the school camp program proved very sue •aaaful. la addition to the experiences provided hi<& school atudents, the school-camp program was utilized a* a teacher-education resource by Appalachian State Teachers College. An expanded program will i be available this summor for high school boys and girl*. The dormi torie*. classrooms, gymnasium, Uke, and tennis cou.l* at Lees HcRae will be used for imple menting the purpose* of the sum mer high «chool camp program. Lees-McRae does not operate a summer college program. A varied curriculum will be available far high school students. Subjects will be baaed on the re quests of the student csmper*. Credit* can be secured in English, mathematics, history, science, foreign language, and typing. Solid geometiy . and other advanced courses may be elected by stu dents. Non-credit courses in re medial reading, personal typing and band inatruction will be of fered on demand. In addition to economic studies, a varied recreational program will be provided. With the college stu dent center serving aa head quarters for social activities, co educational recreation will be s prominent feature. The occasion commemorated the twentieth year of the founding of'the band by Mr. Nash. Former students and friends from all parts of the state gathered to pay Mr. Nash this honor. The pro gram was conceived and arranged by i. Perry Watson, present director of the band. Corn Producers Meet Will Be Held Today A corn producers meeting with the Watauga Chapter of the 100 Bushel Corn Club, and Dr. A. D. Stuart, Agronomy Extension Spec ialist, will be held in the County Agent's office Thursday afternoon, February 28, at 2 o'clock. . The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the results of corn hybrid variety testa and set up new tests for 1997. It is hope U> have tests for both grain and sil age yields. One hundred bushel corn certi ficate! will be given to the firmer* who hid their corn yield* estimat ed by the committee snd produc ed a yield pi 100 bushels or more per acre. Loans /Vote Available Re-Enlistment Program Slated The Navy Hecruitini Office ia Lenoir hM issued the following announcement with reference to the re-enlistment program: This is the second in a series of announcements made by the Navy Recruiting Service in Lenoir con cerning the new extensive re-en Iistment program. In addition to the previous announcement that Navy veterans discharged for leas than 24 months may be re-enlisted without loss of pay grade, there are several other attractive fea tures. For instance, after having been re-enlisted, s man would be allowed to take thirty, days leave before reporting for ultimate as signments. This would give him ample ime to take care of faqiily affairs and serve out employment notices, while at the same time, he would be on the 'pay-roll" earn ing full pay and allowances, like new program also provides that while on leave you may be able to take your pay account to any Navy activity and draw your pay and ad vance travel allowance. Navy of ficials say this is a very important incentive because men who re-en list snd elect to be transferred to the West Coast for duty and take heir c»r would rectivt approxi natrly $18000 travel allowance la tdvance. The Navy spokesman said that the new "shipping-over" pro gram is the first of its kind, and that former Navy men should con tact their Navy Recruiter and find out about these and many other enticing and attractive features available to the "career man" of todays modern Navy. Weems, Superin tendent of the Blue Ridge Park way, 149,229 , persons in 45410 vehicles traveled the Parkway in January of this year. This is an increaae of 17*967 of 13.7% over January of last year.
