Charles Overman, agricultural engineer, received the award for Blue Ridge Electric Presentation of the awards was made by J. R Cobb, chairman of the NEMA Contest Committee. Mr. Cobb congratulated both of the vinrlng cooperative* for their achievements during ltM He stated that the contest provided a means of encouraging leas active power suppliers to do more toward promoting the concept of "all-elec trical living" on the farm and In rural areas, and that the progres sive programs of the winners, not only resulted In cash awards, but Increased long-term revenues for their respective co-ops and created • more satisfied and stronger membership throughout their ser vice areas. The Blue Ridge Membership Corporation aervices over 14,200 farm and residential members in northwestern North Carolina, with 1.000 of these members being lo cated in the Caldwell district. Its major efforts in 1986 were direct ed toward continuing Its year round promotion of electric cook ing. This program resulted la the installation of 701 electric ranges, ' as well as sddlng an estimated 1406 other major electrical appll-! ances to the co-op's lines.
