Green Valley School The Green Valley annual chicken supper hks become almost a tradi tion in our community and coun ty. It was originated aeveral yean ago as a benefit affair for the im provement of the facilities at the school, and anyone who is familiar with the progress of the Green Valley School knows what a vital part is has played. It has now be come almost an indispensable event with the good food, the fine hospitality, the efficient service, and the wonderful public relations that it has brought about through out the entire county. The school wishes to express its most sincere thanks to every in dividual who furnished food, fur nished time to work, sold tickets, or helped in any way to make the dinner the success that tt was. Especially do we* want to thank the committee that parked cars, because it relieved any traffic congestion that might hate oc curred. A special thank to ail who came, bought tickets, and ate with us. Yea were so very gracious and complimentary that it was reward enough for all the work that had been done. ■r * « « BaMavT orrYMT We wish to txfmi our thanks Is the Ministerial Association and to Bav George Shuford for the well-planned Easter service at our school last Friday moraine It was aa follows: Hymn, Christ The lord is Kisen Today; secripture, Tania Starns* and Joyce Winebarger; prayer, Jeannie Greene; hymn. The Old Rugegd Cross; song. The Lord's Prayer, Smitty Storie, meditation, Rev Shuford; Hymn, Christ Ai-oae; benediction, Rev. Shuford. . The hums were led by Mrs Mary Ann Winkler. Mrs. Lavender's first Grade April has been a busy time for us. Pint we had the pre-school clinic in which thirty-one children were checked by Dr. Mary Michal and instructed by Mrs. Nancy Tho mas, public health nurse. These children and their par ents were served refreshments at 10 o'clock and a lunch In the lunchroom at noon. In the after noon these guesta were taken through the building and shown film strips in the dark room. We gave the PTA program April lllli. We portrayed ■ day in the tint grade arasically and rhythm ically. We won the priae (or hav ing the moat parent! present. Ate* Greene woo first priae for aellihg the most tickets to the chicken pie aupper. We have a new boy, Otia Adams, who came to ui from Parkway School. Audry Miller. Nadine Miller and Para Starnes have a perfect attendance record for the year. We are enjoying the eleven new reading hooka which we helped to purchase. On Good Friday we had an Caster Egg Hunt Harold Beach and Elaine Profflt won the prize baskets for finding the most eggs We wish to thank Norman's, moth er, Mrs. Luther Norria, for help ing to fill our Easter baskets . Third Grade The third grade is enjoying their study of birda. Each child made himself a booklet in which he puts material about birds. He colora pictures of our backyard birds and write* a story about each bird. The boys and girls have divided themselves into two groups. Each group la trying to make more 100*8 in spelling than the other group. Each time a boy or girl make a hundred; their rabbit makes one hop on our faster scene. Hie side that wins will receive a party from the loaing aide. We are so glad to welcome into our class and school Larry Wood ring from the Whitnel Schools, and Wayne Adams from Parkway. We hope they will enjoy Attending our school. We were sorry for Cecil Milter to leave our school, but hope he will be happy at Parkway. We want to thank the parents who helped us with the Easter party and egg hunt. We also want to thank the parents who sent re freshments. Fourth Grade Neva We've looked forward so long to our Easter holidaya. On Friday morning we had our Baiter En hunt. We want tit thank Mr. Ha** Clawaoa far hatting ua u*^ bis ap ple orchard. Jeffrey Brown wo* a prise for finding the Moat ecu and Libby Stone wen a priae for finding the lucky egg. Almost everyone in our room contributed aomething to our an nual spring chicken supper such at chickens, eggs, milk, potatoes and green beam. Diana Foater helped entertain. She sang several numbers. We are happy to have Charles Adams. He came to ua last week from Parkway School. Those receiving perfect attend ence certificates for this past six weeks period were: Nancy Greene, Linda Brown, Jimmy Shoemske, Denny Norris, Steve Priffitt, Mary Alice Culler, Joe Proffitt, Lyada Norris, and Jimmy Proffitt. Those celebrsting birthdays this month are Sara Hodges, Gary Church, Evonne Miller, and Gladys Potter. Zionville News Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Clint Winebarger recently were Mr. and Mrs. Vance Vines and Cindy of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Winebarger and children of Elk ton, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Sher man Winebarger and Glenn of Post Falls, Idaho, am} Mrs. Edd Hasckedy of Abingdon, Va. Mr. Dwight Eggers of Rising Sun, Maryland spent the week-end recently with his parents. Rev. and Mrs. R. C. Eggers. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Norris of Sugar Grove spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wilson. Airman 1st Class and Mrs. R. F. Roche of Raeford, N. C. spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Edd Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Reeves Hoi man. Rev. and Mrs. R. C. Eggers and Mr. Ross Bumgardner visited re cently with a sister Mrs. Bessie Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Johnson of Mountain City, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin and Wallace spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Wine barger and Glenn of Post Falls, Idaho are visiting Mrs. Winebnrg er's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Iscnhour. Mr. and Mrs. Boice Triplet^ and family of Charlotte visited recent ly with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Triplett. Rev. Degree from Loyola University and a MA in Sociology from tlfe Uni versity ef Virginia. Captain Baird's medals and decorations include the Army Commendation Ribbon. World War II Victory Ribbon, Army Theatre Ribbon. WAAC Rib bon, National Defense Ribbon, and the Reserve Officers Ribbon. First Lt- Ellis entered service February 14, 1092. She waa com raiaaioned March 14, 1993. She holds degrees in Home Economics from Deans College, Franklin, Maas. She has been awarded the National Defenae Medal.
