The Church School of the Boone Methodist Church is now holding classes in its new building, located behind the main church building. This west side view of the three-story building showa the walk-way and entrance on the left, with the main classroom por tion being at the right of the building. Besides classrooms, facilities are available for social functions of the Sunday school, and built-in kitchenettes are on each level of the building. Seferal of the class rooms are divided by folding curtains and may* be turned into large assembly rooms when needed. The church library and offices are also located in the building.? Carroll, superin tendent of public instruction for North Carolina, will be the speak er at the commencement exercises to be held at Appalachian Sftte Teachers College, Sunday, May 29, at 3:00 p. m., in the auditorium of the health and physical education building. Dr. Carroll is a native of War DR. CHARLES F. CARROLL saw. , He holds the A. B. degree from Trinity College, the M. Ed and the honorary LL.D. from Duke University, and the honorary LL.D. from High Point College. AH of hit professional ex(>erience has been in conection with the schools of the state. For one year, fol lowing his graduation from Trin ity college, he was teacher and coach of athletics at the Vance County Farm Life School in Mid dleburg; he was principal of the Buena Vista High School at Hen derson, of the Newport Consoli dated School at Newport, of the Lonk Creek-Grady School in Pen der county, and the Bryson City Elementary and Swain County High {Schools in Bryson City. From 1932 to 1B37 he was superintend ent of the Swain County Schools and was superintendent of the High Point City-Schools from 1S37 to 1962. Since August 1932 he has been the state superintendent of public instruction of North Car olina. Dr. Carroll has held and now holds membership in a long list of distinguished professional organi zations and civic groups,, and has served aa an officer in many in stances. A number of these have been national offices. Not only has he been active in his profes sion, but as a citizen of his com-' munity and state and church, as well. His home Is in Raleigh. The program for the commence ment exercises will include the processional and recessional play ed by the college orchestra, di rected by Nicholas Erneston of the music faculty; music by the college choir under the direction of Mri. Virginia Wary Linney, also of the music faculty; the invoca tion given by the Reverend E. H. Lowman, pastor of the Boone Methodist Church. The candidates for the bache lor's degree will be presented by Dr. D. 1. Whitener, dean of the. college, and candidates for the master's degree will be presented by Dr. Herbert W. Mrs. Eliza Guy Funeral Held Mrs. Elita Millsaps Guy, *7, died at her home at Beech Creek May ll, following a long Illness. Funeral services were held May IS at 2 o'clock at the Beech Val ley Baptist Church by Rev. Day ton Jones, and burial was in the Beech Creek cemetery. Surviving are one son, and seven daughters: Thomas Guy, Beech Creek; Mrs. Susie Phillips, Mrs. Elizabeth Harmon, Beech Creek; Mrs. Betty Phillips, Mrs. Grace Cookman, Mrs. Effie Mae Cruise, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Edna McWortha, Mrs. E*sie Greenwell, Butler, Tenn. Shuford, pastor of the host church, deliver ed rhe sermon for the occasion and Howard Williams, Watauga County soil' conservation agent, gave a short address, emphasizing our dependence upon the soil, seed, and the sower. in the provid ence of God for the furnishing of our needs. During the Service, which be gan at 11:15 the congregation formed a processional to a near-by field where a dedication of the Soil, Seed, and Sowers was con ducted under the leadership of The Rev. E. M. Tyson of Marion, minister of the area Seventh Day Adventist churches. Calvin Hicks of the Balrd's Creek Presbyterian Church presented the symbolic . soil to be consecrated ?nd R. A. Farthing, Valle Crucis Baptist, presented the seed. Following the /dedicatory ser- l vice, the group took part in a bountiful fellowship dinner-on the-grounds. High school diplomas will be awarded to 198 seniors at com mencement exercises to be held Friday evening, May 30, at Wa tauga County's four high schools, County Superintendent W. Guy Angell has announced. Appalachian High in Boone has the largest graduating claas with 83, and Cove Creek is second with 73. Bethel and Blowing Rock each will graduate 21. A total of 18 more graduates will receive diplomas in the coun ty this year than in 1987, whan 180 were graduated. Baccalaureate sermons will be delivered at all schools on Sunday, May 29, with services held at night in each case except at Bethel, where this portion of the com mencement exercises will be held at 2:30 u. m. Greer, 09, well known reiident of Boone, died May IB at Watauga Hospital, fol lowing a long illness. Funeral service! were held May 17 at the Boone Baptist Church. The pastor. Rev. L. H. Hollings worth was in charge of the rites. Assisting were Rev. E. F. Trout man, Lutheran "Minister, and Rev. J. K. Parker, of the Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Mount Lawn Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Greer, a daughter of the late Carroll and Mrs. Adama, is survived by her husband John Greer and one son, Earl Greer of Albertnarle. There is one surviv ing sister, Mrs. Jessie McGuire of ' Boone. Jack E. Norris Taken By Death Jack Ephriam Norris, 81, died ?t his home on Route 2, May Uth. Funeral services were held May 13 at 2 o'clock at Howard's Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Glenn South, Rev. Ed Hodges, and Rev. W. C. Payne and burial was in the Barnes cemetery. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Maggie Norris, and the fol lowing sons and daughters: Wade Norris, Clintwood, Va.; Ned Nor ris, Salisbury; E. J. Norris. Hick ory, Guy Norris, Boone; Mr?. W. K.
