WSCS District Meeting Held The Watauga-Avery sub-district meeting' of the Woman's Society of Chuistiah Service Was held in Newland last Wednesday with Mrs. William L. Hubert of New land, presiding. The devotional was in charge of Rev. John H. Christy, pastor of the Elk Park, Charge. The welcome was given by Mrs. John H. Christy, and the response to the welcome was given by Mrs. Ford Henson of Vilas. The theme for the program was "Cbriat^Jor The World We Sing," Mkbjp* Howard Mast of Valle BMMt very- beautifully sang the hymn "Christ For The World We Sing," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Austin South of Boone. In the absence of the district president, Mrs. James Councill, the vice president, Mrs. W. F. Caddy of North Wilkesboro introduced the district officers. Mrs Hubert had roll call of secretaries, and recognition of visitors. Mrs. Edward Baird of Valle Crucia introduced the guest speaker, who was Miss Mollle Town send She has spent most of her life in the foreign mission fields. She is now living in Ashe ville. She very interestingly told of her travel and experience in China, Japan and Korea. Refreshments were served in the dining hall of the church. Mr. Baughman has for nine years been a Methodist missionary1 to the Ibans, who made popular the name "wild men of Borneo." The Methodist Church is the only Protestant group bringing a minis try to the more than 100,000 Ibans of Borneo and Rev. Burr Baugh man has been the "architect" of the Methudist mission work among these people. He has established schools and churches and provid ed the only medical care available in the area until recently when the Methodist Church established Christ Hospital at Kapit, Sarawak. Mr. Baughman has had no medical training but was able to give mod ern miracle drugs in many in stances of pneumonia and other illnesses to save the lives of the people. He served until- recently as District Superintendent of the Methodist work in Sarawak and is now head of the new Methodist theological school in Kapit, Sara wak.
