Baptist Camps Reaching Peak The churehei ot the Three Forfci Baptist Association are at the peak of their camping activi tiea at Camp Joy for thia summer. The camp (or Sunbeams, a reli gious organization for young girls and boys, was held last week un der the supervision of Mrs. Susie B. Henson. A total of seventy-one girls and boys from the Three Forks Association and Stony Fork Association were enrolled. The Sunbeams engaged in numerous activities which included Bible study, Mission study, handwork, and different kinds of recreation. The Royal Ambassodor Camp will open Aug. 8 and will continue through the week. All Royal Am bassadors and counselors in the Association are invited to attend this week of Christian endeavor according to Mr. John Ward, Roy al Ambassador Counselor for the Three Forks Association. The Rev. James Kisselberg and the Rever end J. Boyce Brooks will lead the Bible study periods daily and Mr. Richard Davis will direct the af ternoon recreation periods. All Gold Star Mothers in Watauga County are cordially invited to be pres ent. Gold Star Mothers are the ones who lost a son in WWII and the Korean Conflict. We hope to have a good number of these Mothers at this meeting. Official Dedication For ? Camp Joy To Be Sunday The official dedication service for Camp Joy will be held Sunday, | August 14 at 2:30 p.m., at Camp Joy. In 19S3, Mr. Ode* Wilson and wile, Nora Wilson, donated (our acres of land near their home to be used for summer camps for our Baptiat young people and for any and all Baptist churches to use for group gatherings, picnics, fellow ship meetings and associational meetings of all types. Since that time, under the spon sorship of the Brotherhood, Wo men's Missionary Union of Three Forks Baptist Association and in terested friends, the csjnp has grown very rapidly. From 1993 to the present time, buildings, at a valuation tff >12,000, have been constructed. These buildings con sist of a dining room, kitchen, bunk building and recreation assembly building. The _camp was held for the first "time St CampFesti, near Foscoe, in 1047, with an attendance of sixty-three boys and girls. From 1949 to 1992 the camp was held in Mr. and Mrs. Wilson's home and since that time, the present Camp Joy has been the site. In twelve years the attendance has been as follows: 387 boys, 989 girls, 13 Y. W. A., 236 Sunbeams and 679 different persons have attended the Camp. There have been many Laymen and preachers that have worked ?s a unit and they have been great ly rewarded through the religious growth of those attending Camp Joy. Funeral services were held Aug ust 6 at Cove Creek Baptist Church, by Rev. Ernest Blackburn and Rev. Alvin Wilson. Burial was in Cove Creek cemetery.
