HENDERSON BELK Henderson Belk of Charlotte will be the Laymen's Day speaker nt the Boone Methodist Church, Sun day at 11:00 a.m. Henderaon Belk was born Au gust 1. 1923. in Charlotte. N. C. His father, the late William Henry Belk was the founder of the Belk organization, which now consists of more than four hundred retail department atores located largely in the Southeaat. He was educated in the Char lotte City Schools, is a graduate of McCaliie's School for Boys, Chat tanooga, Tenn., attended Davidson College, and Is a graduate of Duke University. Entering the Navy in 1M2, he spent three and one-half years in service, part of which time waa in overseas duty in the Pacific. Mr. Belk is an elder in Trinity Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, a member of the Men's Club Board, a member of the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Rescue Mission, President of the Charlotte Camp -of Gideons, Vice Chairman 1 of the Charlotte Christian Business ' Men's Committee, and a member of the Mecklenburg County School Board. Also, Mr Belk Is a Vice Presi dent and Director of the various Belk Mercantile Corporations. Mr. Belk is marrifd and resides with his wife and four children >n Charlotte. During the 1990 Campaign of the Charlotte Chapter of The American Heart Association, Mr. Belk served as Chairman of the Fund Raising Campaign. Since Mr. Belk Completely com mitted his lift to Christ in 1998, he has travelled thousands of wiles to witness and Rive his testimony for Christ. TODD FERNEYHOUGH The Rev. W. Todd Ferneyhough hai accepted a call to become Prieat-ln-Charge of St. Luke'a Church and chaplain to Epiacopal students at Appalachian State Teacher* College. Mr. Ferneyhough is a native of Reidsville and ia a graduate of Reidtville High School and re ceived an A. B. degree from Elon College in 1M9 and a B. D. degree from the Divinity School of Duke University in 1932. He also took one year post graduate work at the Philadelphia Divinity School. He was ordained Deacon in St. Thomas Church, Redisville, in 1993 and began hia ministry in the Church of the Messiah in Mayodan where he was ordained to the priesthood in 1964. In 19S7 he accepted ' a call to Trinity Church in Baton Rouge, La. where he served as curate and chaplain to Epiacopal Studenta at Louiaiana State University until coming here. He is married to the former Dorothy Coble of Greensboro. They have a S year old son Phil lip Brooks. They will reside in the Clint Cannon house on the Blowing Rock Road after Octdber 20th. During the apring of 2900 he visit ed Jordan. Iarxel, Egypt, and especially the plactj whore Jesus lived, taught and died. It was his privilege alao to follow some of Paul's journeys In Athens and Ephesus, Greece. Many people have been blessed. encouraged, and have committed their lives to Christ as a result of( hearing this young man's testimony of what Chriat can do with a life that ia completely surrendered to Him! School Superintendents To Attend Local Seminar w ... v&i Fifteen leading Tir Heel school, superintendents have been invit ed to attend a student teaching! seminar at Appalachian State Teachers College Saturday, Oct. 19, according to President W. H. Plemmons Approximately 100 a t|u d t a t teachers and 200 other students who will graduate this year will hear the public school officials answer questions pertaining to their school systems and point out the advantages of teaching in North Carolina even' though salar ies are higher outside the state.
