Rock. The groom, an airman in
the United States Air Force, is

Air Force Base, Salina, Kansas.

employed at the Village Studio of
Beauty in Blowing Rock for the
summer and is now with the Pow

Mr. John Houston Stepp at their
1:00 q'clock wedding ceremony in
St. Elisabeth Catholic Church,
Boone December 10.
The ceremony was performed by
Father Francis T. Connolly of
this parish.
The bride is the daughter of the
late Mr. Benjamin and Mrs. Vic
toria Thayer of Miami, Florida and
Boston, Massachusetts. She was
given in marriage by Dr. Lawrence
Owsley resident of Boone, an im
mediate friend of^he family. The
bride is in the graduate school at
Appalachian State Teachers Col
lege.
Her portrait wedding gown was
Fashioned in several miniature
panels of silk organda- which bil
lowed gracefully into a princess
style reaching floor length creat
ing the illusion of a diminutive
train. She wore a fulf crown of
erystalized embedded seed-pearl
chips from which was attached her
finger-tip veil. The bride's bou
quet was made up of white pom
poms with white satin streamers
and her detachable going away
corsage which was effectively cen
tered in the bouquet with an iden
tical arrangement, complemented
Iter outfit.
The bride's only attendant was
Miss Nancy Starr of Raleigh who
was the Maid of Honor. She wore
?n emerald green street-length
dress with matching satin slippers
and veiled ribbon hat. She carried
a bouauet of varying autumn col
ored pom-poms with matching sa
tin streamers.
The best man for Mr. Stepp was
Mr. David Balzer of Elkin. and
the ushers were Mr. Robert Daily,
New Jersey; and A1 Robillard,
Rhode Island. All attendants at
the wedding are students at Ap
palachian State Teachers College.
Soloist for the wedding was Miss
Ruth Hartley, Opopka. Florida
and she was accompanied by or
ganist Mr. Stephan Vaugh, Greens
boro, both of whom were under
the direction of Mr. Earny Hotard
of Appalachian State Teachers
College.
The guest book was kept by
Miss Linda Sue Smith, Clintwood,

After a brief honeymoon, the
newly weds will reside at Route 1,
Millers Creek. Mrs. Stepp plans to
continue her graduate studies as
an assistant in the Reading Center,
Appalachian State Teachers Col
lege and Mr. Stepp will resume
his position as Executive Manager
of the Wilkesboro Farmers Co
operative Exchange in North Wil
kesboro. Mrs. Stepp is a graduate
of the University of Miami, Coral
Gables, Florida and her clubs
while In Florida were Coral Gab
lea Pilot Club, Greater Miami

til taking a years professional
leave of absence from her duties
in the field of special education as
a speech consultant, she was a

Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to his graduation from the
University of South Carolina, he
had been an avid participant in
all college functions and clubs.

The Butler home, always beau

introduced Mrs. R. P. Donnelly
who, for the devotional thought,
read "Glorious Christma*," after
which Mrs. W. B. Mount offered
prayer.

and music was then given by
James R. Butler, Jr.
Mrs. J. C. Rambo was then in
troduced, who eulogized both Mr.
ancf Mrs. Fuller for all they have
meant in the civic, religious, and
educational life of the community.
Mrs. Rambo. when a girl of about
eleven, was a guest at the wed
ding dinner given by the parents
of Mr. Fuller the evening of their
marriage.
After these remarks, Mrs. Ram
bo, on behalf of the members of
both organizations, pre*ented Mrs.
Fuller with a gold broach as a
token of their respect and admira
tion for her and her selfles* work.
Mrs. Fuller, in response to thi*
favor, gave a brief resume of her
colorful life and eventful life, from
her childhood days in North Car
olina, through her school years
and the span of her teaching ex
perience, her meeting Mr. Fuller,
her marriage, and of the years
since, filled with many, many
warm and unforgettable memories.
In closing, Mr*. Fuller, who has
an inimitable speaking style all
her own, stated that, if given the
opportunity to relive her life, no
thing she had said or done would
be changed over the way events
have gone up to date; that she was
very well satisfied that she had
done and said as she should.
Two other* of those present,
Mrs. I. W. Nave and Mrs. W. A.
Davis, also have celebrated their
golden wedding anniversaries.

music while refreshments were

Gay Fruit Cocktail Pudding Cake
Next time you bake an oven dinner for the family, ilip in this
quick and aaiy fruit-flecked pudding cake. A light sponge cake
batter holds colorful canned fruit cocktail throughout, with flaked
coconut on top toasted to delightful crunchiness. "Fruit Cocktail
Pudding Cake can be served warm or cold with a fluff of whipped
cream and garnished with fruit cocktail.
Beat 2 eggs with 1 teaspoon vanilla until light and fluffy. Grad
ually add 1 cup sugar, beating until thick and lemon-colored.
Measure % cup sifted all-purpose flour; re-sift flour with Vt tea
spoon salt-and 2 teaspoons baking powder. Stir into egg mixture.
Thoroughly drain 1 ( 1 lb. 14 oz. ) can fruit cocktail; measure out
V/i cups fruit and fold into batter, reserving remaining fruit for
garnish. Turn into buttered 9-inch square baking pan. Sprinkle
1 cup flaked coconut over top. Bake in moderate oven (350 de
grees F.) 35 to 40 minuter, until cake tests done. Cut in squares
and serve warm or cold, topped with Vi pint (i cup) heavy
cream, whipped and sweetened to taste, and reserved fruit cock
tail. Makes 8 servings.
