With the eoid bad weather flu ally upon us, one ef our local golf art, not being abU to play much lately, entered and won a national contest to mune a new golf ear Bob Hasten submitted the name ef "Bogey Buggy'' and was noti fied a few days ago that he was ta a three way tie with two others that had tent in the seme name. Bob received a phone call Friday night with the good nawi that he had won the contest over the oth ers For having the winning name. Bob wins one of these carts which carry his name. I understand it to be a one man cart powered by gasoline. The new name plus a picture of Bob will appear in a future issue ef Colfdom magazine which has a nationwide circula tion to golf eouries all over the country. The 14th annual Donald J. Roe* Junior Golf Tournament will be held at the Plnehurst Country Club Wednesday, December 27th. This is an 18 hole event, with three divisions, A, B, and C. Boyi age 18 through 17 play in class A, boys age 11 through 14 play in Claas B and boy? under 11 play in Class C which will be a nine hole event. There Is no entry fee for thif event and no greem fee, Its free and will be followed by a father and son tournament on the 38th. Anyone wishing to play in one or both of these events should aend their entry to Kenneth M. Schroeder, Secretary, Plnehurst Country Club, Plnehurst, N. C. Although there are no returning champions from laat year's 'aquad, Coach Gabriel ia optimistic as to the boys chances of regaining the ?tate title this year. Laat year, af ter four years as champs, the locals | lost to Thomasvlile by one point. Roek The Appalachian High School girls' and boys' basketball teams defeated Blowing Rock in games last Tuesday night. Girls' game score was 49-45, and boys' score 68-34.
