New Student Teachers Begin Work At AHS i Four student teachers from A. S. T. C. began work at the high school on Friday, March 9. Mrs. Sharon Edwards Palmer, who was just recently married, will be working with Mr. Eu gene Wilson In social studies. Mrs. Palmenr is origially from Ashevill#,. where she attended Clyde A. Krwin High School In college she has participated In Playcrafters and the B. 8. V. John K. Boyte, whose home address Is Carthage, N. C.. Mil be doing his student -folding with Miaa Louise Kurd and Mr. Harlao Ledford. Mr. Boyte at tended Carthage High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mr*. Joseph L. Boyte, Sr., and Is married to the former Ruth Parlier of West Jefferson. He served in the army for three years. At A. S. T. C. he la ? member of the Veterans' Club and Pi Omega Pi; he was also a junior marshal. Ronald Whittaker, who lives at 309 Hardin Street In Boone, will be working with Mr. J. H. Harvey in physical education. Mr. Whittaker graduated from Wakefield High School, Arling ton, Virginia. He was activ? In sports in high school, and play ed college football until he re ceived an injury- He is a mem ber of the Men's "A" Club and sports editor of The Appalach ian. He is married. Working with Mr. Verlln Cof fey in French will be John R. Hatcher, Jr., whose home town is Lowell, N. C. Mr. Hatcher at tended . Ashley High School in Gastonia; he then entered The Citadel in Charleston, S. C., from which he received the B.A. degree. His majors are foreign language and education. Mr. Hatcher has been active in musical groups, both at The Citadel and Appalachian. He has also worked as a musician in the summer. Mr. Hatcher Rotarv Bey Of The Month Johnny Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Taylor, was a guest of the Boone Rotary Club a* Rotary Hoy of the Month for February. He and hi* father at tended a recant dinner meeting of th? dub. Johnny, a four-year letterman in (ports, haa been active in both fpotHall wid basketball. He is active in other school affairs: editor of the school yearbook, a member of the Men's "A" Club, president of the senior class, and a member of the Na tional Honor Society. After graduation Johnny will attend the University of North Caro ling to study pharmacy. Business Girt of Moath Linda Hayes, daughter of Mr. ?ml Mrs. Dwight Hayes, repre sented Appalachian High School as Business Girl of the Month in February. She and her moth er were guests of the Boone Business and Professional Wo men's Club at their last meet in*. Linda is active in school af fairs. She is vice-president of the Girls' "A" Club, chairman of Mr. Snead's senior home room, a member of the high school chorus and choral en semble, a member of the school newspaper staff, and a member of the National Honor Society. In college Linda plans to study mathematics and prepare for a teaching career. Citizens Of The Month A freshman boy and girt were elected Citizens of the Month for February. They are Jerry Ray and Mickey Seaward, both honor students and active workers in freshman activities and classes. Mickey is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Seaward.
