Moretz Given Doctor Degree DR. ELMO E. MOKETZ Elmo E. Moretz, .on of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Moretz of Route 2, Boone, 111 awarded the Doc tor of Education degree during formal commencement at the University of Miami, Fla., Jan uary 29. The candidate was hooded during the ceremony by his advisor, Dr. H. W. Wey, formerly of Boone and ASTC, and presently associate dean of the School of Education. Moretz's doctoral dissertation, "A Study of the Relative Effec tiveness of Teachers with and without the Master's Degree," was jointly sponsored by the School of Education of the Uni versity of Miami and the Dade County, Fla., Board of Public Instruction. Moretz is now assistant pro fessor of education at the Uni versity of South Florida in Tam pa. His public school exper ience included positions in Gas tonia, Raleigh, and at the Ap palachian Elementary School in Boone where he completed an administrative internship under the direction of John Howell. He taught at the Psychological Warfare Officers School while in service. While working toward the doctorate at Miami, Moretz serv ed as assistant to the graduate studies committee in the school of education and as assistant to the director of the Univer sity Bureau of Institutional Re search. , Dr. Moreti- received the B. S. and M. A degrees from Appa lachian State Teachers College in 1992 and 1999, respectively. Other grdauate work was com pleted at State College of the University of North Carolina. Dr. and Mrs. Moretz, the fopmer Virginia Bridges of For est City, reside with their daughters, Anne and Patricia, age seven and five, at 906 Fal mouth St, Temple Terrace, Fla.
