Mr. Carl Smith, Division
Manager of International Res
istance Company, presented,
this week, on behalf of I.R.C.,
two new units to Watauga Hos
pital; the Myosynchron, muscle
stimulator, and the Megason,
an ultrasonic unit.
The Myosynchron is valuable
in the rehabilitation of muscles
and joints. Through strains,
trauma, sprains, dislocations,
and paralysis resulting from
nerve tissue damage, whole
muscle groups, are thrown into
a state of inaction and become
stiff, painful, and finally de
stroyed. With the use of this
new stimulator, restoration of
function may ? be accomplished
and the patient restored to
normal life.
The Megason ultrasonic unit
produces vibrations at frequen
cies of one million cycles per
second. This ultrasonic energy
will pass through living tissues
effecting therapeutic results not
achieved by any other method.
' With these advances in mod
ern Medical Technology, it is
no longer necessary to rely on
"Grandma's" remedy of "hot
soaks" for the treatment of
arthritis, bursitis, dermatitis,
contractures, and rheumatoid
diseases. Treatment with these
new units relieve crippling di
seases and the duration of ill
ness is shortened.
Dr. H. M. Wilson, Chief of
Staff, expressed appreciation
from the Staff and the Hospi
tal for the addition of these
modern therapeutic units to the
hospital armamentarium. He
recalled that in 1959, I.R.C.
presented the hospital its first
Bloodmobile Coming
To Boone April 23
By JOE HcCLUNG
We see from tine to Jlme
signs announcing the coming of
? blood mobile visit or we read
as you are now that one is
scheduled for a certain date in
our community; But so often
that la as far a* it goes with so
many and yet, the substance
that so many In good health
can give, so seldom do.
It's only human nature that
we put things off and we do
every day. When one is remind
ed of this or that we often say,
"Oh, I'll do it tomorrow or 1'U
catch that next time", and life
goes on. Very seldom usy cir
cumstances arrive because we
might have put one thing or
another off until tomorrow or
another time. But occasionally,
we are faced with a thought
that we should not have post
poned but instead, thought of
tomorrow and an an obligation
to others or even ourselves.
This is so true when and
where blood is concerned, es
pecially when it is a factor in
the life substaining substance
of life. We wonder if we had
given at the last bloodmobile
visit or reminded a friend,
would not we fee) a little bet
ter, knowing that in some small
way that perhaps indirectly we
too were helping to aid in the
help of a friend or loved one.
We all know that giving of
one's time or self requires so
little and yet we put it off and
in time of crisis we feel so
helpless.
The question is asked so often;
resuscitator which has been
responsible for the saving of
many live*.
Mrs. Grace, Hospital Admin
istrator, praised I.R.C. for its
continued aid and support to
the hospital and the commun
ity.
