mara reported that his cost
reduction program reduced
Pentagon spending by $1 billion
during the fiscal year just
ended.
In the report McNamara told
the President this was $250,000,
000 more than he had estimated.
The savings have been in
logistic (supply) costs and
"have not in any way been
achieved at a sacrifice of na
tional security."
