The main part of the present building was erect ed in the early HMO's pior to the Civil War and the old slave galleries are still in the build ing, which has been kept in perfect condition through the years and has been in constant use. A unique feature of this church is the manner in which the offerings are received. The offering "plates" are s.nall red velvet sacks on the end of sticks, which are hung with the offering on the posts at the front of the church during the service. Present at the celebration were a number of Presbyterian dignitaries, moderators of the Synods of North Carolina, South Carolina, Appalachian, and others. Between 600 and 700 people were present, all be ing fed luneh by the local con gregation. TO SEDUCE TROOPS President Kennedy said, at a recent news conference, some reduction is planned in non combat personnel, in Germany which would probably be in the supply forces. The President added that as long as the need exists Ameri can fighting forces in Germany will be kept at their present strength. It is the U. S. policy to keep six combat divisions in Germany as long as they are required. Church-going is one of the hall-marks of a proper com munity spirit, among other things. Doe* it Indicate warm weather? ai some say? Does It mean it is likely to rain? A halo can, and often does, give a clue about approaching weather. A halo is formed when high, thin clouds move over head, creating the halo effect These high clouds are compos ed of ice crystals, which reflect the moon's light. Because a warm front always moves in overhead before its mass passes over the immedi ate surface directly before the leading edge, one can often de tect its approach, either in day light or at night. At night the high clouds pro ducing the halo produce a sign of probahle rain. And during most of the year the approach of a warm front will mean no ticeably warmer weather ahead. So the halo often does mean that rain and warmer weather are on the way. It is one of the sky signs which can be read by careful observers? though it is not an infallible forecaster.
