One Killed In Parkway Crash Sunday In Va. Meadows of Dan, Va.—Ernest A. Melick, 36, of Miami, Fla., died in a Roanoke hospital Sat urday from injuries received Friday night in a one-car crash on the Blue Ridge Ridge Park way near here. Melick was a passenger in a car driven by William M. In graham, 25, of Portland, Me., which left the parkway and struck a tree near milepost 185.9 on the scenic highway. The two were traveling from Blowing Rock, N. C., where they worked, to Maine. Ingraham was treated and released at a hospital at Stuart Talent Scout Show At Bethel A Talent Scout show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Bethel Elementary Schol. Admission for adults will be 50 .cents; for children, 25 cents. A door prize will be given at the conclusion of the show. BREMC Awards Scholarship To Miss Barbara Lee Perry A $600 scholarship has been awarded to Miss Barbara Lee Perry of Zionville by Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation. Barbara Lee, a senior at Wa tauga High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlie Perry. She is one of four out standing students in Northwest ern North Carolina who have received scholarships from the locally-owned electric co-opera tive. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic achieve ment, leadership, need for as sistance, desire for higher edu cation and willingness to make sacrifices toward obtaining this goal. Extracurricular activities dur ing Miss Perry’s high school training have included member ship in the Debating Club, Na tional Honor Society, Beta Club and Student Council. She plans to enter ASTC in the fall. Other winners of $600 scho larships are Ronnie Howell, son of Mrs. O. V. Howell and the late Mr. Howell of Route 2, MISS BARBARA LEE PERRY Granite Falls, Caldwell County; Larry Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Cox of Route 2, Sparta, Alleghany County; and Ralph Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill V. Davis of Lansing in Ashe County. C. E. Viverette, general man ager of BREMCO, stated, “Oua organization is vitally interest ed in the total development of Northwest North Carolina. We feel one of our greatest as sets is our people and we want to do what we can to develop our human resources. Award ing these scholarships to con tribute toward the furthering of the education of our young people is one way we feel we can play a part in the develop ment of the area.” Worthwhile Club To Have Rummage Sales The Worthwhile Woman’s Club will hold a rummage sale ■Friday, -May 6, from 1 to 4 P hi. and Saturday, May 7, from 8 a. m. to 4 p. m. The sale will be held in the part of the Hunt's building recently occu pied by the Blue Ridge Supply Co. The club would appreciate any donations of articles to be sold.
