RICHARD WAYNE COOK Married At Wilkesboro The Wilkesboro Baptist Church was the setting for the wedding of Miss Carolyn Lee Hogan and Richard Wayne Cook, of Boonville, Sunday May 26, at 3 p. m. with Reverend Henry Morgan the officiating minister. A program of wedding music was rendered by Miss Elaine Mathis, vocalist, and Miss Iva Shumate, organist. The bride, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ray Hogan of Wilkesboro, is a graduate of Wilkes Central High School. She is a graduate student in X Ray Technology at Wilkes Gen eral Hospital. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ledford Cook of Park Avenue, Boonville, is also a graduate of Wilkes Central High School, and is now a senior at North Carolina State Univer sity, majoring in recreation and park administration. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length tent gown of white se quined, scalloped, Chantilly lace with a redingote effect over Peau-De-Soie, sweeping to a chapel train. A shoulder length silk illusion veil was attached to a cluster of small organza roses and lace petals. She car ried a cascade bouquet of white roses, carnations, and step hinotis. Mrs. Thomas Petty of Adars ville, Georgia, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Linda Blackburn, and Miss Jackie Priester of Wilkesboro, Miss Teresa Cook, sister of the bridegroom was the junior bridesmaid. Attendants for the bride wore floor-length empire dresses of yellow crepe accented with Ve nice-type lace. Their head pie ces were yellow crepe bows with circular net veils. They carried bouquets of daisies. The bridegroom’s father was the best man. Ushers were Don Hogan, brother of the bride, Harrold Brown of Pfafftown, Dickie Grayson of Charlotte, Lance Reynolds of North Wilk esboro, and Walter Mathis of Boonville was junior usher. For the wedding trip to the mountains the bride changed to a yellow silk shantung dress ac cented with blue and yellow lace trim. She lifted her corsage of white roses from her bridal bouquet. After June first the couple will be at home at 906 Trogdon Avenue, North Wilkesboro. Daniel Boone Chapter DAR Holds May Meet The Daniel Boone Chapter of the DAR held its May meet ing at the Chalet Restaurant. The meeting was called to order by Regent Mrs. Hadley Wilson and the DAR ritual and Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag repeated by the members. After the American Creed was given, the group sang the National Anthem, Mrs. Wilson read from the by-laws, Art. 5, Sec. 1 andSec. 4, Art. 4. Mrs. Ann Millsaps gave a re port on national defense con cerning United States and U. S. 5. R. subs. Mrs. Robert C. Pettus of Honea Path, S. C., a guest, gave a report on the Continental Congress which was held in Washington. The new President General is Mrs. E.Seimes from Delaware. Mrs. Wilson mentioned that the District meeting will be Oct. 2 in Shelby. Mrs. Ruby Trivette gave a most informative program on the first Americans, in which she brought out information on America’s early citizens and where they settled. Worthwhile Woman’s Club Annual Picnic A delightful occasion of May 23 was the annual picnic of the Worthwhile Woman’s Club hon oring the husbands of mem bers. The meal was served in the picnic area of the beautiful garden of Mrs. Homer Brown, where tall borders of iris, a profusion of blooming shrubs and a huge log fire greeted the guests. The members held a brief business session after the meal and Mrs. Brown, president, was in charge. Hostesses assisting Mrs. Brown were Mrs. Wiley Smith, Miss Margaret Moretz and Mrs. A. E. South. Thirty - one members and guests were present for this annual event. MRS. FRANK DePERI Hillard-DePeri Vows Said Miss Mary James Hillard be came the bride of Mr. Frank De Peri Saturday evening at 8 o'clock at the Cove Creek Bap tist Church, Sugar Grove. They are now living in Abilene, Tex. The Rev. Ernest M. Blanken ship officiated at the ceremony and wedding music was present ed by Miss Sandra Bullington, University Women Hear Play Reading At 7:30 p. m. on Tuesday, May 21, the Boone Branch of the American Association of Ini versity Women met in Room 300 of Edwin Duncan Hall for an unusual program. The topic for the meeting was “Existence”. In order to carry out that theme Mrs. Warren Dennis, program chairman for the evening, presented a group of young people reading an ab ridged version of Jean Paul Sar tre’s famous one act play, No Exit. Rev. Maurice Ritchie in troduced those who participated in the reading: Jay Rogers, Cherrie Elledge, Jean Baker and Terry Tawney. Following a well-interpreted presentation of the play, the members present and those par ticipating in the reading took part in a brief and interesting discussion of the existentialist play and its implication for the individual. Other members of the pro gram committee for May were Mrs. Elmer White, Mrs. Muriel Glenn and Mrs. Laura F. Church. soloist, and Mr, Robert Phill ips, organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of satin moize featuring an empire waist and overcoat trimmed in antique lace and a redingote train. Her veil of moonlight silk illusion was attached to an anti que satin bow covered with ba tenbury lace and she carried yellow on white roses with a diloahable corsage. Maid of honor was Miss Amy Irene Hillard of Lakeland, Fla. She wore a formal A-line gown of yellow Sykiyaki with prin cess neckline and short sleeves. Mrs. Shatter Pierce Jr. of Mor row, Ga., was matron of honor and Miss Lottie Kaye Hillard of Lakeland, Fla., was bridesmaid. They were attired in gowns identical to that of the honor attendant. Mr. Shatter Pierce Jr. was best man and serving as grooms men were Dillon Wilson and Wil liam Mast. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Hillard of Lakeland, Fla., the bride is attending Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Tex., where she will receive her B.S. degree in poli tical science and history in Jan uary of next year. The Hillards were residents of Vilas before moving to their present home in Lakeland. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Michael DePeri of Abilene, Tex., and the late Mr. DePeri. He is presently an instructor in political science at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. A reception was held follow ing the ceremony in the fellow ship hall of the church.
