At Lees-McRae College

pointments made recently to that
department.
Mr. Don Ott, Dean of Men,
resigned to further his study
on his masters degree. Miss
Betty Yancey, Dean of Wom

cal secretarial field. Mr. Lee
H. McCaskey, Dean of Stu

is certainly inadequate to ex
press appreciation for the ser

been wrapped a lot of time,
energy, and ability around Lees -
McRae College and I personally
want to wish each erf these cap
able people the very best in
their new endeavor.*’
ON BUDGET CUTS
Several of the senior mem
bers of the Senate Foreign Rela
tions Committee are making an
effort to win major cuts in the
Pentagon’s $8-billion research
and development program.
Their list will include research
projects barely related to de
Greer and Wade Wilmoth.
Other committee members
remain the same, with excep
tion of the finance chairman,
S. M. Ayers, who will replace
Paul Smith as chairman on
finance; and Service to Mili
tary and Families are Mrs.
Kathy DeGroat, Mrs. Kathy
Hill, Miss Anita Winkler and
Miss Kate Wilson.
An excellent report was
given by all service chairman
for 1967-68. Blood collections
were 734 pints, and used 630
pints to date. The report on
volunteers who have worked in
the bloodmobiles and the Wa
tauga Hospital was very good
with over 5,000 hours of ser
vice given. Mrs. Faye Hodges
and Miss Helen Burch took
the honors, having given the
largest number of hours.
Over 300 families of the
military servicemen have re
ceived service through this
chapter this year. And as the
amount of troops increase in
Vietnam, our services must
increase also, stated Mrs.
Fletcher. We have had request
for 75 “Christmas Ditty Bags”
to be filled this year, 25 over
the amount shipped last year.
Also 75 unfilled bags for toilet
articles are needed whereas
50 were shipped last year.
One dozen layettes furnished
by Mrs. Danner’s Extension
Homemakers Clubs were shipp
ed to the Vietnamese Orphan
eges.
Mrs. Fletcher thanked the
civic and social clubs and the
WAMY sewing groups for their
participation in this program,
and urged their support in this
worthwhile project in future
years.
Coach R. W. Watkins gave a
very good report on certificates
issued in safety services. A
class of First Aid was given the
Rescue Squad members and
some of the new ambulance per
sonnel, as well as continuing
classes held at ,ASU the en
tire school year in First Aid
and Water Safety. ,
