Keep
Your
Word
If you would win success,
keep your word. Don't be hasty
in making promises, but once
you make an important promise
keep it, though the heavens fall.
Establish a reputation of being
a person of your word. Let folks
know that when you say a thing,
you mean it.
If you promise to meet some
one at 9 o’clock, see that you
are there at that hour. Don’t
consider it a mistake if you
should reach there at five min
utes of nine. Better to go with
out your dinner than to be ten
minutes late.
Never give people the impres
sion that you say one thing,
and do something else. Nothing
so surely blasts a reputation
for 100 per cent sincerity as
that. People wish to deal with
intergrity, not with duplicity.
If a note is due on a cer
tain day, pay that note even if
you have to borrow the money
to do it, or renew the note,
or at least visit your creditor
and have an understanding.
If you have promised to per
form some service, be sure
the service is performed, or
that the effort is put forth. If
the one you have promised to
serve forgets it, see that you
don’t forget it. If memory fails
you, invest ten cents in a writing
pad and carry it with you and
use that pad.
One whose word is as good
as one’s note is the one whose
note is good. He who will not
keep an oral promise would
break a written agreement. A
foolish promise should not be
made, but if the promise is
made, it ought to be kept.
He who makes light of a
small promise will ignore the
larger promises of life. We
want to deal with the person
whom we know is absolutely
sound through and through.
We want to know that he is
genuine and that he will keep
his word. We fear, we shun,
we ignore the two-faced person.
If we detest that quality in
others, they will detest it in
us.
Success never comes to him
who is unreliable, who thinks
nothing of breaking a pledge.
Failure marks the path of the
one who does not possess honor
enough to keep his word.
Written agreements should
not be necessary, but they are,
because of the human element
erf infidelity. People rightly
judge us by the way we keep
our word. They expect us to
make our acts square with our
promises; our conduct with our
professions. We should be what
we pretend to be.

Love Family Has
Reunion On Sunday
The descendants of the late
Dave and Martha Love held
their first reunion Sunday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
B. F. Hodges on the Bristol
Road.
Eighty relatives and friends
of the family attended and an
outdoor dinner was served.
Sons and daughters who were
there were Mrs. B. F. Hodges
of Boone, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Greer of Statesville, Mrs. Hazel
McCauley of Boone, Mr. and
Mrs. David Love of Nashville,
Term., and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Love of Miami, Fla.
The widow and children of
Mr. Coy Love, who live at
Vilas, also attended.
