Adams said that even though the Bcone Fire Department had responded well to alarms in the Cove Creek area, the time element involved in getting equipment to a fire made it impossible for a fire to be adequately contained. He said that Boone fire fighting equipment had been used to protect other property sur rounding a blaze. One of the biggest problems encountered so far, said Adams, is location of property on which to erect a fire house. No de cision had yet been reached on financing the project and he said that the cost of estab lishing the department could not be estimated at this point. He commented that there is some interest in establishing a fire district to cover a four mile radius from die fire house. The fire district area under consideration would provide protection for some 500 homes and 18business establishments. Adams said, “We’re looking into different things,” concern ing equipment and he said that a retired fireman from Wash ington, D. C„ who is part of the organizing group, would be in the Capitol City on a vacation trip and while there, check on equipment. After the department is ap proved by the State Fire Com mission, Cove Creek residents may receive as much as a five per-cent reduction in fire in surance rates. Adams reports “good repre sentation” from residents at planning meetings and said the next meeting will be Monday, Sejrt. 16. At that time, a fire chief and other department of ficers are to be selected.
