Mr. and Mrs. Homer E. Ga bard of Yadkinville announce the marriage of their daughter, Reda Laren, to Lawrence Sum ner Gill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Gill of Boone. The wedding took place in Gaffney, S. C. The bride and groom are both students at Appalachian State University. They are living on Stadium Drive in Boone. Grandfather Club Has Cookout Supper The Grandfather Community Club had a cookout supper in connection with its business meeting Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ned W.Jestes. Ambrose McLean president presided at the meeting which had 32 members present. One of the newly organized communities, Grandfather is unique in that it is composed of about half summer residents, many from Florida, and half established remittents. ' The club was started in 1964 as a farm income recreation area. The lands of the club members were opened to the public for fishing, hunting and hiking by obtaining a permit from a club member. The community starts two miles west of Foscoe and ex tends down Highway 105 to the Linville Gap. The name is taken from Grandfather Mountain which is in the community area. Other officers of the club are Mr. Mitchell, vice-presi dent; Mrs. Cook McGee, secre tary; and Mrs. Lena McLean, treasurer. MRS. Alpha Beta Chapter Meets At Hound Ears The Alpha Beta Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa Inter national Honorary Teachers’ Sorority met at the Hound Ears Club Saturday, Aug. 31, to en tertain the Omicron Sorority of Lenoir. The meeting was a buffet luncheon. As guests arrived, they were met by the local chapter’s presi dent, Mrs. Helen Stroupe, who was assisted by Mrs. Grace Beach, Vivian Welborn, Willie Sims and Mary Sue Todd. The six luncheon tables were covered with yellow linen and matching napkins. Each table was centered with a crystal vase containing a large Peace Rose. Members’ places were marked with place cards bear ing original ceramic flower pins. Yellow was used to sym bolize the chapter’s colors. Each guest was presented a plastic filled bag of local advertisements and a pair of gardening gloves. The buffet table was centered with a huge arrangement of yellow chrysanthemums with artemisa and dracaena foliage.
