Harris sent to Frankfort in
Hie spring of lS08 to head the
YMCA when it was housed in
the second floor rooms of the
Capital Building and Loan As
sociation.
It was the following October
8 that Harris formed Us first
Boy Scout Troop in Frankfort
and later became responsible
tor organising Scout troops
throughout Kentucky. The troop
was formed under a British
charter.

The State Journal, a Frankfort
newspaper, the YiCA and
scouting were almost one In the
same during Harris' days in
Frankfort. He also was physical
director of the YMCA,

tucky. Five years later he moved
up to the professional scouting

field commissioner for 14 states
in the south and southwest.
Arris was founder and
director of the interracial ser
vice in 1926. When be retired
from Boy Scout work In 1947,
Harris was assistant to the
director of operations of Boy
Scouts of America.
