Area Obituaries EARL B. SEARCY. SR. Earl B. Searcy Funeral Held Last Friday Mr. Earl B. Searcy Sr., vice president of Waldensian Bakeries, Inc. of Valdese, N. C. died Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, in the Valdese General Hospital after an illness of four weeks. He was born in 1900 in the Hominy Creek area of Bun combe County and was the son of the late Joshua Boyd Donald Searcy and Amerlia May Bright Searcy. His early years were spent in the Asheville area and he came to Valdese to worn for the Waldensian Bakew as a craft baker in 1922. Mr Searcy, who owned quite a bit ■ property in Avery, and Wataswa counties, made his homefin Valdese and in Blowin Rock. Much involved in gefing the ski Industry underway here, he was an active member of the board of directors of Appalachian Ski Mtn. _ Until his death, Mr. Searcy also was active in the management of Waldensian Bakeries which he had served as baker, plant manager and director of production and maintenance. Until recently he had been very active in community affairs, having served on the Town Board of . Valdese, as a member of the Burke County .Board of Education and as a charter member and past president of the Valdese Lions Club. Also, he served on the local board of The Northwestern Bank, was a past Deacon and Elder in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, was past president of the N. C. Angus Association, a founding grantor of the Valdese Public Library, director and trustee of the Valdese General Hospital and a member of the Board of the Valdese Savings and Loan Association. When his children were young, he was active in the Scouting program. Mr. Searcy is survived by Ms Fall Trade Days '69 Ambassador 4 Dr., Automatic Trans. C. widow, the former Mae Bungarner, three sons, Earl . Jr. and Donald of Valdese, and Alvin of Wilkesboro; three daughters, Mrs. William D. Owens Jr. of Rutherford College, Mrs. Robert C. Berry of Wilkesboro and Mrs.. Paul Justice of Hildebran; a sister. Miss Mildred Searcy; and 14 grandchildren. The funeral was held at 1 Friday afternoon in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Valdese and burial was in the family plot at Forest Hills Cemetery, Morgan ton. The family requests that in lieu of other remembrances, memorials be sent to the Building Fund, Valdese General Hospital; to the Valdese Public Library; to the Building Fund, Waldensian Presbyterian Church; or to the American Cancer Society. Arnold J. Adams LENOIR — Arnold Jesse Adams, 63, of Lenoir, Rt. 10, died Monday of last week in a Lenoir hospital. The funeral was held at 2 p. m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial was in Hartley Hill Cemetery. He was Mrn in Watauga County to En|rrt and Robertha Adams. H^wwas a retired lumberman. | Surviving ,are his widow, Mrs. Mary L. Chester Adams; four daughters, Mrs. Harley Clontz of Morganton, Rt. 7, Mrs. Tom Thompson of Lenoir, Rt. 1, Mrs. Earl Nichols of Lenoir, Rt. 7, and Mrs. Charles Nichols of Greensboro; five sons, Gary and Joe Adams of Lenoir, Rt. 10, Jesse Adams of Lenoir, Rt. 7, Luther Adams of Lenoir, Rt. 1, and Lloyd Adams of Lenoir; and two sisters, Mrs. Clinard Jackson and Mrs. Rae Church of Lenoir. I Howard B. Knight Howard Burton Knight, 84, of Triplett died Thursday of last week at Watauga County Hospital. He was bom in Watauga County and was^a mwnber of Mount Ephraim Baptist Church. He was a retired brick mason. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Edith Miller Knight; five daughters, Mrs. Edward Lyons of Elizabeth ton, Tenn., Mrs. Howard Simerley of Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Pauline Sneali of Lakeville, Ind., Mrs'. Henry Aldridge of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Mrs. Barbara Whisnat of Charlotte; three sons, Frank and Wayne Knight of South Bend, Ind., and William Knight of Elizabethton; a brother, Frank Knight of Lenoir; 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Tne funeral was held at 2 p. m. Sunday at Mount Ephraim Baptist Church with the Rev. Roscoe Greene and the Rev. Bill Hamby officiating. In terment was in the Simmons Cemetery.. Enough Louisville, Ky—Mr». Mary Morgan, a waitress at a down town restaurant for the last 13 years, quit her Job there after the 23rd robbery while she was working.
