Claude Sikes has returned from Scotland Neck, where he was sick for the past two weeks with an attack of malaria at the home of his parents, Rev. and Mrs. T. A. Sikes. Mrs. Mollie Privott returned to her home on Queen Street Sunday from Norfolk, Va., where she has been the guest of her sons for several days. She is now confined to her bed with a deep cold. Tom Hoskins, who is s student at Louisburg College, spent the past week-end with his parents, Mr. aad Mrs. T. J. Hoskins, at "Beech Island Farm,” near Edenton. T. E. L. Class Meets With Mrs. J. M. Elliott The T. E. L. Class of the Edenton Baptist Sunday School met Monday evening at 8:00 o’clock with Mrs. John M. Elliott at her home on Queen Street. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mre. Margaret Jones, and Mrs. J. H. Haskett led the class in prayer. Following the usual business meet ing a memorial service was held in memory of Mrs. W. S. White, a faith ful member of the class who died a few months ago. The teacher, Mr. W. J. Berryman, read 103 Psalm, of fered prayer and made a short talk. Mrs. H. C. Goodwin sang a solo, “The Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. John M. Elliott, Jr. At the end of the service Mr. Berry man pronounced a benediction. The December meeting will be held with Mrs. J. J. Long. Members present included Mrs. J. C. Leary, Mrs. Margaret Jones, Mrs. J. C. Dail, Mrs. Henry Goodwin, Mrs. O. C. Davis, Mrs. H. T. Layton, Mrs. R. W. Boyce, Mrs. B. F. Francis, Mrs. J. Frank White, Sr., Mrs. J. J. Long, Mrs. H. B. Fidelis Class Meets With Ruth Sexton The Fidelis Gass of the Baptist Sunday School held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the home of Miss Ruth Sexton on North Broad Street. The meeting was presided over by the president, Miss Doris Jean Ward. During the business session all mat ters of old an<jl new business were brought up for discussion and dis posed of by the Class. Following the business session, a very interesting program was given, in charge of Mrs. John Lee Spruill. The Gass then adjourned into the social hour, when delicious ice cream was served by the hostess. Those present included Mrs. W. b. Privott, Mrs. J. Frank White, Jr., Mrs. John Lee Spruill, Misses Doris Jean Ward, Frances Ward, Myrtle Parks, Mildred Munden, Ruth Sexton, and one new member, Miss Lois Barrow. She was chosen among a group of eight for a final examination of the outfits entered in the contest. Miss Smith is the 15-year-old daughter of John Smith of Rocky Hock and is a student in the tenth grade at Chowan High School. Miss Nelle Caldwell, Chowan demonstra tion agent, is very well pleased with the showing of Miss Smith inas much as the winner of the contest was a young lady 29 years old, which is the age limit in 4-H Gubs. TWO EDENTON CHILDREN PLACED IN ORPHANAGE W. M. Wilkins, W. J. Daniels and John Lee Spruill went to Oxford Monday, where they carried little Ethel Louise and Jessie Mae Cayton to the Oxford Orphanage. The two children are daughters of Mrs. War , ren Cayton, whose husband died some time ago. These entries to the orphanage makes three Chowan children in the Masonic institution. Ten additional Lincolnton county farmers are planting alfalfa this fall; some for the first time, and others adding to a profitable acre age. ; '■.
