White and little son visited relatives in Oak Grove Sunday afternoon. Mrs. L. L. Lewis is undergoing treatment at Duke Hospital, Durham. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Culpepper, of Hodges Ferry. Ya., are expected to day to visit friends. They will be ac companied here by Mrs. Culpepper’s mother, Mrs. T. J. Wilder, who has spent the past two weeks with her daughter. Miss Elizabeth Elliott, a student at Meredith College, Raleigh, will spend the holidays with her mother, Mrs. T. W. Elliott on East Water Street. Miss Sallie Margaret Elliott, who is a member of the school faculty at Crewe, Va., is with her mother, Mrs. John M. Elliott, for the Christmas holidays. Mrs. J. H. Byrum, of Center Hill, was in town Monday shopping. T. L. Ward, of Ryland, was in town this week on business. Mrs. George Griffin and Miss Gladys Griffin, of Elizabeth City, were in town last Friday to see Miss Griffin’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Griffin, and Mrs. Howard Jackson. Miss Elizabeth Eason, of Ryland, was in town shopping Saturday af ternoon. Miss Mary Arrington Burton, who is attending Meredith College, Ra leigh, is at home with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Chappell, for the holidays. M. on Christmas Day. Special Christmas music has been arranged for both of these services. R. T. BRYANT CIRCLE MEETS MONDAY WITH MRS. BYRUM Circle R. T. Bryant, of the Wom an’s Missionary Society of the Bap tist Church met Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. T. C. Byrum on West Eden Street with nine members present. The meeting opened with prayer, followed with Scripture reading by Mrs. J. Frank White, Sr. “Silent Night” was sung by Mrs. T. C. By rum, after which Mrs. W. S. Perry read a poem. Following a song, the roll was called and minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap proved. After all business was transacted, the Circle Avas invited to meet in January Avith Mrs. John M. Harrell. The meeting was dismissed with a prayer. The hostess served delightful re freshments to those present: Mes dames Bob Oliver, A. J. Ward, W. S. Perry, Tommie Parker, O. C. Davis, John AI. Harrell, Ellen Byrum, J. Frank White, Sr., and Airs. Riddick Chappell, of Hertford. BYRD’S CLUB MET MONDAY Byrd’ Woman’s Club met Monday afternoon with Mrs. Evie Umphlett at her home on the Y’eopim Road. Several members were present and an enjoyable meeting was held. The hostess served a salad course and a sweet course. This was the last meet ing of the year. Miss Caldwell, who is leaving soon to be married, was presented with a nice gift from the Club. BUNCH—McCLENNIY Mr. Daughtry Bunch, of Winton, and Miss Aggies McClenny, of Eden ton, were married Saturday, Dec. 15, in Suffolk, Va. They will make their home in Rocky Hock.
