Raw linson and Mrs. Paul Holoman spent Saturday afternoon in Elizabeth City. Mr. Wade Olive was in Norfolk, Va., Monday night on business. Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Layton and family moved this week from West Eden Street to the Forehand apart ment. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Ashley and sons have moved into the residence of Mrs. K. R. Ward, on West Eden Street. Jordan Yates, 0. B. Perry and Er nest Jackson attended a meeting of Chevrolet dealers in Norfolk, Va., on Monday night. Roper spent last Saturday in Norfolk, Va., shop ping. J. B. Comer, Jr., has returned from Raleigh, where he spent the past few days on business. David Warren, a student at Caro lina, Chapel Hill, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Warren, in Ganville Street. Thomas Chears, a student at Caro lina, spent the week-end with his pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chears, on Church Street. Jack Pruden returned Monday to Chapel Hill to resume his studies at the University, after spending the week-end with his mother, Mrs. J. N. Pruden, on North Granville Street. Miss Nelle Nelson Powell, who is attending Duke University, Durham, was the week-end guest of her pa rents, Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Powell, on Granville Street. Mr. and Mrs. Julian E. Ward and son, George, Mrs. T. J. Hoskins, Jr., and two sons, Fred and Richard, vis ited their sister, Mrs. A. L. Midyette, at Swan Quarter, Sunday. Mrs. Raymond Harrell, of Eliza beth City, spent the week-end here as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Hafl. Miss Ruth Sexton left last week for Norfolk, Va., where she entered the Protestant Hospital to go in training. Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Goodwin, Mrs. W. M. Miss Jeane Bunch celebrated her eleventh birthday Saturday evenfhg with a big party. Games were play ed after which delicious refresh ments were served to the 25 present. Blanchard last Wed nesday evening, with a very small at tendance, owing to the extremely cold weather. A. T. Perry killed hogs last week. Miss Donnie Ward spent Sunday afternoon as the guest of Miss Ed die Mae Blanchard. Mrs. 0. M. Blanchard was inform ed of the sudden illness of her uncle, Mr. A. L. Briggs, of Hobbsville, on Sunday. Young Women’s Bible Class Meets Tuesday The Young Woman’s Bible Class of the Edenton Baptist Sunday School met Tuesday evening with Mrs. W. J. Daniels at her home on Oakum Street. The president,. Mrs. Edna White, was in charge of the meeting, which opened with a prayer by Mrs. C. T. Doughtie. The secretary called the roll and read the minutes of the previous meeting. The treasurer and the other officers made their reports. The class accepted an invitation to meet with Mrs. W. C. Bunch in March, and the following refresh ment committee was named: Mrs. D. M. Carter, Miss Iva Mae Dail, Mrs. W. J. Daniels, Mrs. Johnnie Curran and Mrs. C. T. Doughtie. Mrs. E. J. Griffin continued her reading from T. T. Martin’s sermons. Mrs. C. T. Court Room Scenes To Shown At The Taylor At the Taylor Theatre today and Friday will be seen one of the great est all-star cast of fun-makers and heart-breakers in the vehicle “The Captain Hates the Sea.” The cast includes such stars as Victor Mc- Laglen, John Gilbert, Alison Skip worth, Helen Vinson, Wynne Gibson, and many others. Advance reports highly recommend the picture for real entertainment. Saturday’s showing will be the us ual Western, the title being “Blazing Guns.” An extra attraction Monday and Tuesday will be a 700-foot subject showing actual court room scenes during the dramatic cross examina tion of Richard Hauptmann in Flem ington, N. J. The duel between Hauptmann and fiery Attorney Gen eral Wilentz is as gripping drama as has ever been seen in motion pictures, and no doubt many theatre-goers will want tp get this first hand happen ings in the trial of the century. The main picture for the two days will be “Wings In the Dark,” a brand new Paramount release starring Myma Loy. The special Wednesday picture next week is “What Every Woman Knows.” Helen Hayes and Madge Evans perform to perfection in this picture, which has been spared no effort in direction to give vigor and balance to the action leading to a strong emotional climox.
