C, THUSaDAXMAY^^^_ .String Band Concert At Beech Fork School There will be a String Band Con cert at Beech Fork School Friday night, May 31st, at 8:00 o’clock, the program being sponsored by the Rocky Hock Young Woman’s Club. The musicians taking part in this concert consist of Sidney Ward, vio lin; Roy Evans, banjo; Jessie Miller, harmonica; Perlie and Everett Ash ley, guitar and mandolin. These musicians have been first prize win ners in several fiddlers’ conventions in Chowan and surrounding counties. The program will be in the form of a radio broadcast, divided into three parts: Part I. Opening of the Mail Bag. Part 11. .Birthday Party Part HI. ..Sjieciai advertising num bers. There will be a small admission charge, and refreshments will be on sale. The puhlie is cordially invited to attend. Committees Meet To Elect Chowan Teachers Superintendent W. J. Taylor on Wednesday night met with the ad visory committee and the district committee at Chowan High School for the purpose of electing teachers for the next term. The district committee is a new feature of the school law in the elec tion of teachers, inasmuch as the teachers are finally selected by this group with the approval of the County Superintendent and the Board of Education. The committee is com posed of B. W. Evans, Dewey Berry man and J. H. Byrum. The advisory committee advi6e with the district committee and recom mends to said committee the teach ers which the various committees desire. Not all of the members of the ad visory committee have qualified and when this is done the list will ap pear in The Herald, ' COLERAIN | \ ' Misses Janie Walton Taylor and Evelyn Gilliam, of Harrellsville, were in town last Wednesday. Beasley, of Ahoskie, spent most of last week in town hav ing the old hotel painted which has made a great improvement to the town.
