Carroll C. Goodwin of Eden ton,
has been elected to membership ir
Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Rollins
College, Winter Park, Fla. Forty
students were pledged by the three
national and two local fraternities
for men on the Rollins campus at the
close of the customary “rushing”
period.
Goodwin transferred to Rollins
this year from Louisburg College in
North Carolina. He is a graduate of
Edenton High School.
FORMER CHOWAN RESIDENT
DIES IN SUFFOLK HOSPITAL
Mrs. Martha Hollowell Sitterson,
age 64, died in a Suffolk, Va., hospital
Saturday night after an illness oi
some time. Mrs. Sitterson was the
wife of Belitha J. Sitterson, and had
lived in Suffolk, Va., for a long time.
She was bom in Chowan County,
the daughter of the late Quinton
Hollowell. She first married D.
Twine, and to this union two chil
dren were born, Mrs. George Beasley
and Horace Twine, both now living ir
New York City. After Mr. Twine’s
death she married Mr. Sitterson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday
morning at 11 o’clock from the First
Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va., and in
terment was made in Cedar Hill
Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by her
husband and one sister, Mrs. J. T.
Eason, who lives near Edenton. She
also leaves a number of nieces anc!
nephews, among them being Mrs. E
J. Ward and E. L. Hollowell, both of
Edenton.
