Perry, the following Resolution was una nimously adopted by Town Council at the regular meeting Tuesday night, November 12: During the early morning hours on Friday, September 13, 1935, X. E. Copeland, Mayor pro-tempore, and one of the most highly respected citizens of Edenton, put aside forever the working tools of this life and valiantly responded to the call of his Lord and Master. Besides serving several terms as a member of the Town Coun cil, Mr. Copeland was identified with every movement looking to the betterment of our com munity. When there were civi( duties to be performed, Mr. Copeland could always be de pended upon to give freely of his time and his splendid tal ents. He was generous to z fault and no person in destitu tion ever appealed to him in vain. Therefore, be it resolved by the Town Council sitting as a committee of the whole Coun cil: ! First —That in the passing of Mr. Copeland his family has been deprived of the compan ionship of a most affectionate and loved husband and father; Second—That the Town Council and the entire com munity has lost a most faithful, intelligent, public-spirited and genial personage whose life record is an open book which we might well afford to emu late; Third —That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon a page of our permanent minutes as a memorial to the memory of our worthy friend and as a testimonial of the high esteem in which we held him; a copy be conveyed to the bereaved family and a copy published in The Chowan Herald.
