Rector, of Norfolk, Va., visited rela tives in Hertford Sunday. Miss Marguerite Muth, of the Gatesville School faculty, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F O. Muth, on West Eden Street, last week-end. Frederick Waff, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Whitehead, of Norfolk, Va., visited relatives here Sunday. Mrs. Bill Davis and son, Mrs. D. M. Carter and daughter, Helen, spent last Friday in Elizabeth City. Mrs W. N. Forehand, of Norfolk, Va., was the week-end guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Saw yer. Mrs. Sawyer returned with her to Norfolk, for a few days’ visit. Hunter Jackson spent Sunday in Elizabeth City. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Carter and lit tle daughter, Helen, spent Thanksgiv ing Day in Elizabeth City. Raymond Everett, of Statesville, is spending sometime with his pa rents, Mr and Mrs. George Everett. Thomas Hoskins, Mrs. T. J. Hos kins, Jr., Misses Louise Coke and Lethe Hoskins spent Wednesday in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Pattie Rea visited relatives in Portsmouth, Va., during the holi days. Mrs. M. G. Jones visited relatives in Norfolk, Va., through the holidays. Miss Maryland Parks, Miss Marga ret Dail, Miss Louise Dail, and Irvin Gaskins motored to Wilson Sunday afternoon. Miss Louise _Dail, a member of the Wilson school faculty, had spent the holidays with her pa rents, Mr, and Mrs J. Henderson Dail, near Edenton. Miss Ruth Privott, a student at Meredith College, and Miss Catherine Privott, of the Colerain school facul ty, spent the week-end with their mother, Mrs. W. S. Privott, on West Church Street. David Warren, a student at U. N. C., Chapel Hill, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Warren, over the holidays. Mrs. H N. Ward, of Ryland, is spending a few days with her son, E. J. Ward, and Mrs. Ward, at the Penelope Barker Hotel. 1 Mrs. Joseph Northcott and children 1 and sister, Miss Emma Britton have 1 returned from a visit to their father at Plymouth. Miss Emma White, of Elizabeth j City, was the guest of her parents, ' Mr. and Mrs. W. T. White, in North Edenton, during the week-end. Mrs. R. H. W. Bunch is spending ' some time with her son, Clifton 1 Bunch, and Mrs Bunch, in Richmond, Virginia. W. H. Winborne, of upper Chowan County, was in town on business Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Phthisic and children visited his mother, Mrs. Mary Phthisic, near Belvidere, Sun day. Mrs. Phthisic’s condition is very serious. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Brown and son, and Reuben Hunter, of Beulah ville, visited Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Wilkins during the Thanksgiving holidays. Louis George Wilkins, a student at U. N. C-, Chapel Hill, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Wilkins. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hicks and chil dren spent Thanksgiving with rela tives in Charlotte. Willie White and William Morris went to Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday. Mr. Morris, who has been in poor health for sometime, will enter the Marine Hospital for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Hughes, of Norfolk, Va., Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Twiford and son, Milton, and Mrs. W. H. Ward, of Elizabeth City, spent Thanksgiving Day with Mr. and Mrs. Frank V. White, on the Virginia Highway, near Cross Roads. Mr. and Mrs. Frank V. White and children spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Twiford, in Elizabeth City. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Etheridge returned to their home at Virginia Beach, Va., Sunday after spending the Thanksgiving holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Carey Parrish, on the Sound Side Road. Miss Catherine Harrell, a student nurse at the Protestant Hospital, Norfolk, Va., spent Thanksgiving as the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Harrell, near Edenton. Miss Ada Morris, a member of the Colerain school faculty, spent the holidays with her father, Mr. S. E Morris, and Mrs. Morris, on Virginia Road. Patrolman George I. Dail is con fined to his home because of illness. Miss Ada Cozzens, a member of the Mars Hill school faculty, spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Cozzens. The Mobleys left Edenton, moving the equipment, which will most like ly be taken to Norfolk, Va., to open a bakery there. CL, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5, IMS. Chowan Club Meets With Mrs. Winslow Chowan Woman’s Club came to gether November 28th, for a meeting with the president, Mrs. E. L. Wins low. We sang “My Old Kentucky Home” and prayed in unison the Club Collect. The treasurer reported having giv en checks in November to Mrs. J. D. McCall, Mrs. J. N. Pruden, and through Miss Rebecca Colwell to the Jane McKimmon Loan Fund for last vear. On November 28th she was in structed to pay from the treasury, for 1935 through May 1936, the fol lowing dues: To Mrs. W. J. Brogden for the Sallie Southall Cotton Loan Fund, $2.00; to Miss Colwell, for the Jane McKimmon Fund, $1.00; also to Mrs. E, N. Elliott a small amount advanced by her on Achievement Day for the Chowan window in the Ziegler store. We talked of Christmas Seals qnd plans, after which Mrs. W. H. Win borne gave the following program: Song—“ Would God I Were an Ap ple Blossom,” Londonderry Air, Miss May Belle Edwards and Miss Marian Fiske. Mrs. George Marshall, new presi dent of State Federation: Sketch of her Life and State Federation Ad dress, Mrs. Z. W. Evans. Report of Public Welfare for the' Past Year by Mrs. Hocutt. Mrs. B W. Evans. The song was beautifully sung and beautifully accompanied. Mrs. Z. W. Evans, having met Mrs. Marshall at the Ahoskie meeting, read sympathetically of her work. Mrs. B. W. Evans knew Mrs. Hocutt as organizer of Junior Wom an’s Clubs, and knows her as present chairman of Public Welfare. The President appointed the fol lowing committees for our December 9th meeting: Nominating committee: Mrs. R. H. Hollowell, Mrs. Z. W. Evans and Mrs. W. H. Winborne. Committee for quarterly inspection of Midwives’ Kits: Mrs. Z. W. Evans, with helpers selected. A large attendance enjoyed an unus ually good meeting. The spirit of Christmas was felt by all as the Christmas theme was carried out in the Scripture, prayer and the pro gram. Christmas carols were sung. The Class expressed regret at the loss of a beloved member, Mrs. W. F.W alters, who has gone to Warsaw. The hostess served delicious re freshments, which were enjoyed. Those present were: Mrs. T. J. Bell, J. A. Bunch, L. L. Lewis, Harry Smith, T. C. White, W. A. Gordon, Mrs. Lewis Coker, Mrs. Shelton Boyce, Mrs. Jim Arnold, Mrs. E. W. Spires, Mrs. Will Davis, Mrs. Edward Speight, Mrs. Frank Muth, Mrs. Ed wards, Mrs. C. Carden, Mrs. Wayland Moore, and Mrs. C. D. Stewart. SEVEN TENTH GRADERS ON SECOND MONTH HONOR ROLL Seven students of Mrs. George Mack’s section of the tenth grade made the honor roll for the second month of school. They are as fol lows: Dorothy Bufilap, Dorothy Saun ders, Agnes Elliott, Catherine Perry, William White, James Byrum, and Wendell Copeland.
