REGIONAL MEETING OF CITY OFFICIALS BE HELD IN E. CITY league of Municipalities Will Discuss Mutual Problems On Tuesday, January 14 All officials of Edenton have been invited to attend a regional meeting of municipal officials to be held in City on Tuesday, January at 1 P. M. This meeting is one of a series that is being held through out the State under the auspices of the League of Municipalities. A Tound table discussion will follow a luncheon at which Elizabeth City will be host to those attending. All officials in the cities and towns in the counties of Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Martin, Pasquotank, Per quimans, Tyrrell and Washington have been invited to attend. The primary purpose of the meet ing is to have the attending officials become better acquainted with one another and with different problems confronteing the cities and towns re presented. The discussion will be used as a basis for a future legisla tive program, the main topics includ ing problems of finance, tax collec tion, work relief and legislation. In his letter to various officials Arch T. Allen, Jr., field consultant, says no, lengthy speeches are planned, but that an interchange of ideas and experiences by the attending officials will occupy most of the time- Officials of the Local Government Commission and WPA will be presente to answer inquiries in their respective fields. The meeting will adjourn at 4 P. M in order that those attending will have ample time to return home that afternoon. I ( CROSS ROADS j Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Mrs. Carl Baber and son have re turned to Shelby, after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Welch, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hilt and sons, Donald, Jr. and Jimmie, of Greenfield, Indiana, are guests .of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Elliott. Jess Wilson, who has been at a Soil Erosion Camp at Winston-Salem, has , been transferred to Polkton. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Privott, Geo. Peele, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hollowell and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Leary,- Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Hobbs and son, of Hobbsville, visited Mrs. Jordan Hollowell Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hollowell and son spent Sunday afternoon in Rocky Hock with Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Leary. Miss Esther Evans has returned to Hertford, after spending the holidays with her parentes, Mr. and Mrs. Z. W. Evans. Miss Frances Evans, who has been nursing in Elizabeth City, has return ed home. Paul Byrum nas returned to Red Springs, where he is a member of the school faculty; John Ward Byrum to State College, and Conwell Byrum to Wake Forest College, after spending the holidays with their parents, Rev. and Mrs, J. Mrs. Jesse White, president, was in charge of the meeting, and routine business was disposed of. Mrs. Shelteon Moore, chairman of the membership committee, reported one hundred per cent of last year’s membership, and fifteen new mem bers making a total of 64 paid mem bers. Mrs. J. D. Twine, one of the new members, is a Gold Star mother. The Auxiliary is very proud of the membership report, which shows much interest on the part of the membership committee. Letters were read from the veter ans at Oteen thanking the Auxiliary for their Christinas gifts. The Auxiliary voted to sponsor another Essay Contest in the Eden ton school. Mrs. L. S. W- Leary, Sr. Mrs. Callie Evans and daughter, Miss Esther, returned to their home in Norfolk, Va., Saturday after spend ing the past two weeks as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Z. T. White, in Cowpen Neck. Mr. and Mrs- Albert Bunch spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Peele. Herbert Hollowell returned to his home in Norfolk, Va., Sunday even ing. Mrs. Hollowell will spend some time with her. parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bunch. The Rev. Mr. Jones, a missionary to Brazil, spoke to an appreciative congregation in Rocky Hock church Sunday morning and again Monday night. H§' is an interesting speaker, and told much about his work in Brazil and the customs of the people. Mr. Jones is a native of Kentucky and has been in Brazil for the past twelve yeejs. He spoke at Center Hill and at Warwick, and plans to sail Friday for Brazil. H. A. Whitley Now With Byrum Bros. H. A. Whitley, of Hertford, has been added to the corps of employees of the Byrum Bros. Hardware Com pany, arriving Monday to take over his new duties. Mr. Whitley has for many years been associated with the Hertford Hardware & Supply Com pany, of Hertford, and comes to Edenton fully acquainted with the hardware business in allits phases. Mr. Whitley and his family at present will continue to live in Hert ford, but most likely will move to Edenton' in the near future. In the. spring of 1933, Allard A. American school children to the number of 2,- 826,388 deposited $11,575,900 in school savings, reports to the Ameri can Bankers Association show. Four Sets Marriage Licenses Made Out Four marriage licenses were issued over the week-end by Mrs. Maurice L. Bunch, two going to white couples and two to colored couples. The con tracting parties were as follows: Percy Nixon and Dorothy Davis, white, both of Chowan County. Elton Jordan and Eva Nixon, white both of Chowan County. Homer J. Cobb and Ruby Holley, colored, both of Bertie County. Thomas Black and Annie Mtfe Leigh, colored, both of Suffolk, Va. The former is 60 years of age, while the latter is 36. Chowan Couple Wed At Home Os Pastor Briggs Elton Jordan and Miss Eva Nixon, both of Chowan County, were quietly married Saturday night at the home of Rev. W. T. C. Briggs, with Mr. Briggs performing the ceremony. Those witnessing the marriage were Christine Hassell, Minnie M. Briggs and Lydia Briggs.
