Three Cases Before
Recorder On Friday
Recorder’s Court had quite a
lengthy session Friday morning
when three cases were disposed of.
The majority of the time was con
sumed by the hearing of testimony
in the case of Lottie Brinkley, color
ed, who was charged with felonious
ly assaulting William Tripp with in
tent to kill. The latter was severely
cut in two places on the left side of
his chest near the heart, on the left
arm and back necessitating a total
of 23 stitches to close the wounds-
The affair followed an argument be
tween Tripp and his wife which
finally involved Lottie.
Judge J. N. Pruden ruled that the
cutting gossibly resulted in self-de
fence but that more than likely the
defendant went to the extreme with
her foe. She was sentenced to 90
days in jail or to pay the doctor’s
bill, medicine and court costs and
further show good behavior for a
period of 12 months.
Joe Bunch, Jr., white filling sta
tion operator, plead guilty to operat
ing a car under the influence of li
quor, but not guilty to reckless driv
ing. He was sentenced to 60 days
or SSO and court costs on the first
count, and 30 days or $25 and costs
on the second charge. His driving
license was also revoked for a period
of 72 months. Floyd Mit Ward, who
was arrested with Bunch, was tried
earlier in the week before Justice of
the Peace W. S- Summerell, was tax
ed with the cost of court.
Herbert Lane, white man, was
found guilty of driving an automo
bile while under the influence of
whiskey and being drunk and disor
derly in a public place. The latter
charge was nol prossed, while on the
first charge he was given 660 days
or SSO and costs and his driver’s li
cense revoked for 12 months.
GROWTH OF TREES
The length of time required for
trees to reach merchantable size
varies with the kind of tree and the
use to which its wood is to be put.
Posts and crossties can be grown in
from 10 to 30 years. Most kinds of
quick-growing trees will be large
enough to add to the farm income at
the age of 20 to 40 years.
